00:00and what is actually your job what do you do i lead the strategy initiatives and focus of diversity
00:06equity and inclusion at target so that's how we show up and represent the workforce and our
00:12workforce diversity how we represent um our guests through our assortment our marketing
00:17our branding our partnerships how we think about the role that we play in the societal
00:22impact that we have in communities and the way in which we leverage our size and scale
00:27to bring new people diverse suppliers entrepreneurs into a space that without that access they wouldn't
00:34be able to enter and so i lead that part of this really important work at a time that
00:42every day reinforces how important it is um in an organization that has an opportunity to change
00:53the narrative differently than i think anyone else can for sure and then the other part of that is
01:01leading talent leadership development so the experience that you have in training you're
01:08onboarding you're welcome into target functional learning development programs our culture of care
01:16grow wind together um how we think about the experience of team members through the lens of belonging
01:23and equity and psychological safety um and what it is to think about succession planning right so for
01:32all the hr professionals out there you know the systems are either the enablers or the roadblocks
01:39and so my team and i through the lens of our diversity equity and inclusion strategy
01:44are looking at all of the systems interviewing promotions access all of the language
01:55different abilities what do all of these systems as they come together what's the impact that it has
02:01on a person's ability to be mobile in the company that's our talent practices that's our performance reviews
02:08that's our systems that we use and so you you see these in theory two separate entities that actually
02:17come together and synergize like it with synergy because one actually fuels the other yeah right one
02:25guides the other one can break the other down one can lift the other up yeah so how do you bridge them
02:30together um which again might seem disparate when you think about it but in practice you know this really
02:38well when you can't get movement on your learning and development functions to feed in your diversity
02:47equity and inclusion practices then you're actually creating inequitable learning yeah because you're
02:53not thinking about the diversity of the end user yeah and 50 50 plus percent of our company are people of
03:00color 50 are women are you guys at 400 000 now we're over 400 000 so that's half over half of 400 000
03:09people are people of color yes yes that's over 200 000 people of color yes and so if we're not thinking
03:19about that end user yeah i know i'm using technical terms no you're not if we're not thinking about the
03:25person that is working in the target that's literally right across the street from where we
03:30are right now and what their experience is from the second they walk in the door to the second they walk
03:36out the door that's that's target to like i'm not target i used to be when i was working in a store every
03:46day i'm not target target to me are the people that get to a building every day whether it's a store
03:55or a distribution center or if they're working from their home and they're trying to find joy in
04:02themselves for their families and the people that are around
