00:00Hey, girl. Hey, Jack. Hey, Jack. Hey, Jack. Hey.
00:04For those who don't know, I'm Jack A. Harry.
00:06And I'm Sherrilee Rowe. That's right.
00:09And I have been waiting for this moment.
00:11Well, let's get the elephant out of the room right away.
00:12Okay, come on.
00:14Congratulations. Thank you.
00:17And let me tell you this. Yes.
00:18You may quote me or whatever you like.
00:21Water seeks its own level. Remember that.
00:24I don't know who told me that. I don't know if it was Dr. Maya Angelou or Oprah.
00:28Meaning, when you look across the room, you like to see somebody who's right there with you or better.
00:34And I'm so happy for you. And I didn't even know I'd be this happy.
00:38Oh.
00:39How can you know? How can you know?
00:42Yeah, because being the first is hard.
00:45Yeah.
00:46Being the second is harder.
00:47Yeah.
00:49But it's fabulous.
00:51It's so amazing.
00:53Who knew? Yes.
00:53But I was so, when it happened, I immediately kept thinking from Jack A to me and a span of 35 years.
01:07And the fact that no one like us, remotely like us, nominated, I mean, it was just crazy.
01:16But you have an advantage.
01:18What's that?
01:18Social media.
01:20Oh.
01:20And you're able to spread that knowledge because people didn't think about it.
01:24I never thought about it.
01:25I mean, because I don't go around saying, I'm the first, I'm the first, I'm the first.
01:28But you were the first and only.
01:30Yeah.
01:31But I don't, you know, I never thought about it.
01:33Yeah.
01:33I never thought about it.
01:34So you're my social consciousness.
01:36Well, thank you.
01:37Uh-huh.
01:38So I get to raise us both up.
01:39There you go.
01:40And, you know, we came up along the same lines, but we didn't come up doing the same
01:46stuff.
01:46Right.
01:47And I met you, I don't know if you remember, I met you through Ed Love, who was a mutual
01:51friend of ours, who was past.
01:52Oh, my God.
01:52Yes.
01:52And he brought me to your show.
01:54You were at maybe Mama's, Don't Tell Mama's or something.
01:57Don't Tell Mama's.
01:58Yes.
01:58And you were fabulous.
01:59We had a fabulous time.
02:00He said, this girl's going to be a star.
02:02And I'm like, how do you know?
02:02And you were on your path from there.
02:08And after that, you went to Hollywood before a lot of us.
02:12You got there early.
02:14Yeah.
02:14Right?
02:15Yeah.
02:15I got there early because it was all by accident.
02:18You know, I was doing this whole singing thing for the US, the USO, United Services Organization.
02:24And I would, I took one tour of duty around one side of the universe, one side of the world.
02:30And then I went around the other side of the world and all at the grace and request of,
02:37you know, Uncle Sam.
02:40Right.
02:40And it was amazing.
02:41But when I came around the Pacific side, I got off the plane and I said, there's something
02:48for me here.
02:48And I was young.
02:50I only had the money that I had just earned.
02:52I didn't know where I was going to stay.
02:54I didn't know what I was going to do that evening.
02:56And I called my dad and he had just hung up the phone.
02:59Who I also met.
03:00A lot of people don't know that.
03:02And let me just say, it had nothing to do with nothing to love.
03:05It had everything to do when you were, oh God, we don't have as much time to talk, but
03:10when you were doing the workshop for Dreamgirls, a lot of people don't know this.
03:12I started out with the workshop for Dreamgirls when it was called One Night Only.
03:17And then project, project now started, project number nine, One Night Only Dreamgirls.
03:22But I got the soap and I went another different whole path.
03:25Whole another path.
03:26But I started out with Nell Carter, the late, great Nell Carter.
03:31She was Effie.
03:32She used to sing her songs upside down, child.
03:34Yeah, she was Effie.
03:39You weren't going to stay.
