00:00What do you mean have I been? Have I been? I would say wear flats. I would say you
00:07need more time in the convention center than you think. I'd say every performer
00:12on main stage is worth seeing so don't just think you're gonna get there at 10
00:15to see whoever you want to see. Go early. Oh my gosh, Essence Fest is like a big
00:20black family reunion and you're meeting a bunch of cousins that you never met
00:24before and you meet new cousins every time you go.
00:26Child, get your mind right and lay your edges okay because you go it's hot so
00:31I'm just gonna be real with you but it's hot in every way okay the
00:34performances the love everywhere you go it's like a big old family reunion so I'm
00:38excited about this year. I did my first Essence Festival last year you know what
00:42it is first of all it's a good time. My fiance proposed to me on the Essence
00:46stage we had the Essence cover so Essence really is at the helm of the beauty of
00:52our relationship. Every space belongs to black women you can go
00:55how often can we go anywhere in any city and feel like it belongs to us right
01:00and feel like we are seen and known and celebrated in every corner in every part
01:06of the city that is what Essence Fest feels like it feels like you can go
01:09anywhere as a black person and just feel comfortable kick off your shoes and relax
01:13your feet okay. If you haven't been to Essence Fest then you don't value what the
01:18real-life Wakanda is. Essence Fest is where the one place on the planet that
01:23Wakanda truly exists. We take care of each other there every day every day every day
01:28that we're there the community there takes care of us we're there to honor and
01:33serve black women unapologetically and continuously there and so if you want to
01:39see what Wakanda really looks like that's where you ought to be.
