00:00What's going on Essence family, it's your girl Sheree Nicole here on behalf of Essence's Black
00:11Women in Sports, sponsored by Coca-Cola Zero Sugar. This time around I'm right here on the
00:16hardwood at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York for the NCAA Women's Sweet 16 Tourney. I got a
00:22chance to go into some of the locker rooms, okay, of some of our early winners, chat with them a
00:26little bit, and I also got a chance to chat with some fans about their favorite
00:30teams and so much more, so check it out. What would you like to tell athletes or
00:34aspiring young girls out there who want to be sitting in this locker room one day
00:37about the sisterhood of it all when it comes to women's basketball? Just, you know,
00:41being about team, you know, and that's what this team is all about. You know, we always
00:46talk about, you know, together, everyone, the team's new. For you, what has that
00:50extension of sisterhood, like how does that play into how you guys have been able to
00:53pull out games like you did against Notre Dame? Yeah, for sure. I feel like, I'm
00:56never been a part of a team that's as connected as we are, and we truly love
01:00each other, and you can see it on the court as well, and so it makes every
01:03possession that much easier, and you're fighting with your sisters. Go-to pregame
01:06song, what's in your headphones right now? Go-to, I don't really have a go-to
01:09pregame song, just any song by Lil Baby or Lil Derek or something like that, yeah. It kind of changes
01:15either from worship to country. The song Love, but it's a remix with Sean Paul. Grace by Lil Baby.
01:21Everybody's into a little baby these days. What do you think is the time limit, or should
01:27be the time limit, on Coach's pregame speech? Minute. Maybe less, like 45 seconds. What?
01:34Yeah. I would say max four minutes. Short and sweet, and then carry on. Like less than five
01:41minutes. I feel like Coach Teddy does a really good job. She's direct to the point. Two minutes
01:45to talk, three minutes to pray, and then let's go play. What is your favorite pregame meal?
01:54Steak. I love steak, y'all. I eat steak every day. Every day? Every day. What kind of steak?
02:01Revive, medium well. Lunch is mac and cheese, rice, short ribs, and
02:09we be eating cornbread too, so cornbread. I love me some pasta. So any like fettuccine
02:14alfredo with some chicken? That's bomb. This really good pasta that gets made for us when we
02:20play in Gil Coliseum. It's pasta with white sauce, but it's not fettuccine sauce. I don't know what the
02:25sauce is, but it is phenomenal. Can you speak to just the excitement that's around women's basketball
02:37right now? It's amazing. Obviously the athleticism and the greatness that the women have, they're even
02:44more of an example for our young girls and really our young boys because I've got an eight-year-old boy,
02:49Isaiah, and his favorite basketball players are women. I'm so happy to share this with her. It was
02:54just, you know, a daughter mother day out and wanting her to see what the possibilities are in sports and
02:59how far women's sports have come. It's been amazing. I mean, and especially just for Iowa,
03:04with seeing what Kaitlyn Clark has done. Awesome to see the big names and just the games have been amazing.
03:10Who's your favorite player right now and why? Ooh, player? I don't really have a player,
03:15but South Carolina right now, they got my heart. One of the nicest matching couples here today,
03:21all the way from head to toe, one-on-one. Who would it be and why? I mean, it would be Kaitlyn
03:29Clark just to say I played Kaitlyn Clark. I'm not going to win no matter who it is. You play Kaitlyn Clark or
03:34Angel Reese. A good clean trash talk line. Go! Boom! Can't guard me. Can't guard me. I'm going to pick
03:41Angel Reese just because of the Baltimore-Maryland connection. I really like her excitement. You
03:48know, just the trash talk. I think I can hold my own trash talk with her and I might be able to
03:52stuff one of her shots. I would say one player from South Carolina, Cardoza, and one player from LSU,
03:59uh, Angel Reese. Kaitlyn Clark so that I can play defense against her. It's all about defense.
04:07I'm a good defender. I'm going to defend Kaitlyn Clark. Okay, okay. What about you? Um,
04:14I don't have any hope, but I'm going to try to defend Angel Reese.
