00:00Hello. Hello. Hi. Thanks so much for having me today. First of all, thank you so, so much for
00:07being here, Faye. I am so excited to review this incredible product. But before we hop
00:13into the products, you have to tell us, how did you come up with this incredible brand?
00:20Wow. Well, I, it's quite a story. So my husband and I are avid travelers and we traveled
00:27extensively before the pandemic. And we, we even actually for our honeymoons, we stayed abroad
00:34for about a month and a half. And we traveled from Japan to Singapore, Indonesia, got caught in a
00:41volcanic eruption in Indonesia, flew back to Japan. So we really love travel. With the pandemic and
00:49global travel restrictions, we couldn't travel as freely overseas. And we really, really, really
00:54miss the feeling of travel. And I love scents. I love scent branding. It's really big overseas
00:59and things that we've noticed in our travels. And the story that really set off the Terminal B,
01:05just, just ethos, was trying to get this candle that is only available in Singapore's Changi Airport.
01:14For any of you that's been to Singapore, it is one of the most fragrant cities in the world.
01:19In fact, there is a scent that's diffused throughout Changi called Orchid Tea.
01:24And it's so refreshing. It just draws upon the gardens. And it's just such a nice scent that you
01:30have when you get off the plane, coming from, you know, overseas, JFK or a layover in Tokyo.
01:36And so I really wanted this candle. But due to restrictions, I wasn't able to import it to
01:41the United States. So my husband, he said, well, why don't you create your own candle?
01:46And I honestly have never created candles prior to Terminal B. But he always sees some,
01:55he sees something in me that I just, just never saw myself. Even before that, he saw that I was
02:02really into perfumes and fragrances. And for our one year anniversary, he took me to a perfume,
02:07perfume, of course, excuse me. And so we learned how to make different perfumes and different accords.
02:12And then every year for our anniversary, we go to just learn how to make perfumes and different
02:18workshops. And even during the pandemic, he bought me a bunch of raw materials and fragrance oils. And
02:22so we went to the store and bought a bunch of candle making material, wax melter, just different
02:31manufacturers. And I just created this blend to draw upon my own experiences in Singapore. And that
02:37served as the template for our SIN candle, which is the airport code for Singapore. And that's it.
02:43And it is a botanical gardens and white tea blend. And it's just so beautiful. It's just green florals
02:48and a white tea to really just celebrate the botanical gardens that adorn the streets of Singapore.
02:53The white, the white tea scents are diffused throughout all the luxury high-end shopping centers.
02:58And we have so much fun with that. That inspired our NRT candle, which is the airport code for Tokyo.
03:04And that's a beautiful black fig in Cedarwood. And then this clip, these are airport codes.
03:09These are all airport codes. We have an LAX candle for Los Angeles.
03:13Hold on, time out, time out. Hold on, hold on. We're going to go through all the product.
03:17We're going to go through all the products. You're running through them. I, I have to ask because
03:21this is essence, you know, essence, and we love, love. I am so inspired by your love story
03:27and how supportive Chris is, um, to you and your dreams and your business. I always say
03:34having a partner that is your biggest fan and your biggest cheerleader and your biggest support
03:38is the most important thing. So I can't skip over that. Okay. We are essence. And I have to,
03:44I have to shout that out. So shout out to Chris and shout out to you guys being like couple goals.
03:50I'd love to know before we get into these products, um, husband and wife, do we're starting
03:54a business, um, for anybody else that wants to go into business with their friends, family
03:59or significant other that I can't be easy for everybody, but I wonder, do you guys have
04:05like a secret to how you guys make that work, uh, having a business together?
04:09So this is actually our second business. So we, so we met, so long story short, we actually
04:16met at Howard law as students. Um, and then from that, we created a search firm where we
04:21place attorneys at law firms to focus on diversity. And from that search firm, we were able to really
04:29travel abroad as nomads. It, it doesn't feel like work because I have such an amazing partner.
04:34He's my best friend. And he just inspires me to think outside of the box and to really just
04:40be creative or to be able to channel that creativity in really unusual ways. Um,
04:45Perfumery is such a beautiful art and he's an artist. He, he does a lot of things, interesting
04:52hobbies. And so he was, he taught me how to channel my love for scent into a way to tell
04:58a story based on the places that we've been. So I'm very thankful to have, to have my husband.
05:03We love this and people are putting in the cart already. All right. So now we're going to get
05:07to these incredible candles and these scents. Are you guys ready to be transported to another
05:13country? Here we go. Okay. So we have up first. Easy E. Easy is our bestseller. It is inspired by
05:22the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Um, actually stayed abroad in Buenos Aires, my third year law
05:28school. And it was such, it was such an experience. So being in DC, it was winter time. We actually
05:34stayed abroad coming to Buenos Aires. It was summertime. So it was hot winter nights that I remember
05:40having and, and recoleto. So yes, easy E is inspired by just a beautiful glass of Malbec.
05:48So it's very wine forward and there's black current. There was like a heart of plum. There's
05:53amber. And so I just wanted to create something that was sexy, that just smelt like wine. There
05:58are a lot of, actually they're not many wine candles. So it's a wine forward scent, dark and
06:04fruity finish from Nissan of Malbec and our bestseller and also Chris's favorite. So that is easy. And
06:11yes, the candles are double wick, burn time, 60 hours, conservatively, uh, make sure you practice
06:16good candle. How many hours? 60 hours. Six zero. Yes. And when you, and when you burn it, I know it
06:22looks black right now, but when you burn it, it turns into a beautiful amber glow and it really does
06:28set the vibe. So yes, easy E is our bestseller. Um, I'm very proud of, and this was actually one of
06:34the first candles that we released. So we went live July 1st, 2021. So good. And malls. Yes,
06:40it smells very good. Thank you. Okay. Amazing. Thank you. Yes. And the next candle that we have
06:51is NRT. So Tokyo is actually one of our favorite cities in the world. Um, and Japan has such an
06:58inspiration on the brand from the aesthetics, minimalism, just focus on the products. So
07:02NRT is a beautiful blend. It's one of my favorites. I'm so proud of the scent. This is a black fig and
07:08cedar wood. And it's like, well, what, what's like, what does it smell like? Yes. So there's a number
07:14of things that inspired me to do this. So in, in Tokyo, it's a very traditional yet modern city
07:22and there's no other city like it in the world, in my opinion. Um, so we have the black fig that
07:27is just, is so sexy. It's like from Nissana walking into a nice, just rooftop hotel overlooking
07:35Tokyo tower that sparkles at sunset. There's Hinoki in there as well. The Hinoki it's, it's just,
07:41you smell it all over to Tokyo, but it's very subtle. The cedarwood is also something that I'm
07:47really proud of because if you walk through Yogi park, um, you know, if you go in Tokyo and you're
07:52walking the streets of Montesando and you're walking towards Yogi park, there's a number of
07:57cedarwood trees, just cedarwoods all throughout Yogi. So I wanted to be able to draw upon that. And,
08:02um, Yogi park also is next to Shibuya. So Shibuya, everyone knows. Yes. So there's that.
08:09And then there's notes of incense. Tokyo is beautiful in that there's so many different
08:13temples and shrines that are just hidden throughout the city. So I think that all these different
08:18notes come together to really represent Tokyo. And it's just such a, just a sexy, elusive, but
08:23mysterious and just really, really nice, nice scent that I'm just super excited of. And this is my
08:29favorite scent so far. Um, of course they all change depending on my mood, but if I'm trying to
08:34set the mood, this is like what you burn when you have like company coming over, or it's also the
08:40scent of one of our hotel partners as well. Um, and this is flipping it. This is a WeHo only available
08:47at the Andas in West Hollywood. Come on. Terminal B. Now, I love, love, love this scent in particular
08:57for sure so far because, um, they say that your sense of smell is the strongest thing to bring back
09:05a feeling or memories. It has been over 15 years since I've been to Tokyo. And as soon as I smelled
09:13this, it was like transport me right back. And I absolutely love, love, love Tokyo. I love Shibuya
09:20and this so good. I do want to remind everybody you're watching Shop Essence Live, by the way.
09:25Hello, my name is Noni. This is Faye Breedlove. She is co-founder of Terminal B with her hubby,
09:30Chris, and they have the most amazing love story, by the way. Um, I got to remind y'all Father's Day
09:35is coming up. It's coming up in just a few weeks. So you guys want to make sure I think this cedarwood
09:42is a bit, this is like very unisex smell candle. If you have a man in your life, dad, you know,
09:48we never know what to get our dads. This is a really great, um, a really great option, uh, to get
09:55somebody in your life or Father's Day, right? So get this in your cart. AAP. Smells so good. Smells
10:02so good. Okay. You have some other scents for us. Yeah. So this one I'm super excited to talk about.
10:07So this is our take on departures. So DPT is not a real airport code, but we were able to say the word
10:13departures and call it DPT. And our candles also come with lids too, to make sure that it just
10:18traps the scent. Luxurious. Look at this. Thank you. Luxury. Okay. We just want to make sure that,
10:24you know, there's no dust in your candle, but departures. It's like, well, what does departure
10:28smell like? Now I know when people are traveling, it can be really stressful, uh, getting to the airport
10:33two to three hours before checking in, but we wanted to create something that's like,
10:39when I go to the airport, I want to go to a nice premium lounge. I want to arrive early,
10:46grab a glass of champagne, enjoy the spas and then the showers. And, um, just when I walk into
10:51the space, I mean, some, some airports, especially overseas, I mean, you can get a massage, you can go
10:56enjoy like a hot tub, like showers, just relaxation, free flowing champagne. So I wanted departures to be
11:03something relaxing, uh, lavender and eucalyptus, something that you can enjoy before a long haul flight.
11:09So that's where departures comes in. Lavender and eucalyptus. Yes. Now I love taking a eucalyptus
11:17bath. And this right here, having this burning, taking a nice steam shower that definitely unwinds
11:25after a long, long trip, long flight. These candles are so, so good. You're watching shop essence live
11:32and shopping live with us, black owned brands. We are talking to Faith Breedlove of Terminal B and
11:40she has some incredible candles that will transport you to another time and place just by lighting
11:46candle. And they stay lit for 60 hours. That's six zero. These are incredible to have incredible
11:54gifts. We know father's day is coming up. All right. What else do you have for us?
11:59Ooh. So with departures, we paired it with LVR, which is layover. Um, we call this Santal Noir.
12:07And for anyone that has smelled Santal or sandalwood, it is everywhere. So this is like the air
12:14whenever we travel, whether it's a hotel in New York city, the streets of Shibuya, um, Los Angeles,
12:20we're based out of LVR. We just wanted to say, you know what, whether, wherever you are in the world,
12:25you will smell a sandalwood-esque scent. So instead of giving it a specific city, we wanted to say,
12:31Hey, let's call it layover. So no matter where you go, you'll smell it. There's Australian sandalwood,
12:35there's spicy cardamom, there's amber, there's a little bit of cocoa, um, uh, notes in there as
12:42well. So layover it's, when you burn it, it's just musky and it fills the air. It's not overpowering,
12:47but it's very strong, very musky. So you'll enjoy it. Absolutely.
12:53It smells like another great father's day gift. Thank you.
12:57Oh, really, really good.
12:59Oh, and also it's so funny. I don't know if I mentioned this, but Terminal B, so the brand is
13:03like, well, what can you call this brand? So Terminal B, given that we're based in Los Angeles,
13:08Terminal B is the international terminal at LAX, also known as Tom Bradley International.
13:13And our last name is Breedlove. So we only make sense based on cities that we travel to,
13:18to really tell a story that's grounded in authenticity. And actually, if you look at one
13:21of our boxes, we have, the boxes all come with beautiful, just packaging. There's a world map
13:29with stars highlighting some of our best sellers, the B representing Terminal B and also Breedlove,
13:35just, just a little something double pronged. And then of course you have, um, the label of the
13:40candle as well, as well as our story in the back. So yeah, this is just, come on, this is just
13:47beautiful. So I love this. So you guys, as you continue to travel, and I know Chris is going
13:52to be taking, continuing to take you all around the world. Um, that means new, more, more sense
13:58coming out potentially. Yes. Right. We love it. We have a few things in the pipeline for the summer
14:05and I'm so excited. Um, one scent is very, very requested, highly anticipated scent that we're
14:11going to be releasing by August 1st. And we also have a few other things that will be released this
14:17summer. Um, and it's, we're going to shake it up a little bit. So while we are candles right now,
14:22we are going to be releasing some other, um, items as well. So definitely stay tuned.
14:25A lot of candles?
14:26To be determined. I'll definitely let you know. Um, and certainly share as soon as we,
14:31uh, have all of our pictures and we'll be able to post it and share with the community.
14:36You guys make sure that you're following Terminal B on all their socials because we have to be up
14:41on the new news when it comes out. I am very excited. I'm very curious, but I'm not going to
14:45be nosy. Okay. I promise you it's worth the wait. You have one more scent to highlight today.
14:53Yeah. So I have H and L. So this one is one of our bestselling scents in the summer inspired by
14:58Honolulu, um, sweet pineapple and sugar cane. So, you know, every, I think a lot of brands have
15:04signature profile, so it's very sweet, more on the sweeter side. Um, and we wanted to create
15:10something that was like fresh cut pineapples, sugar cane. And so every time Chris, um, smells this,
15:17he's like, it makes my mouth water. So it's very juicy. It's probably going to be one of the
15:21sweeter scents that we probably will release because I'm more into like the musky, more,
15:26you know, more masculine or unisex scents. And yes, our, our scents are very strong, very musky.
15:33And that's just, that's just my jam. So I love that. This is more sweet, still a little musky,
15:38but it's very nice. You can burn this, walk out of the room, come back in. And it's really just,
15:43it fills the space. It's not overpowering and certainly will give you a headache. So,
15:47and also, um, you know, we make all of the candles ourselves. So we are pouring our candles,
15:53we're creating the scents, we're doing everything, fulfillment. And so, um, yeah,
15:59so this is something that we create by ourselves. Um, and we definitely just want to be able to
16:03tell our story and connect in a way that's just true. So, um, yeah, this is definitely one of the
16:10popular scents in the summertime.
16:11This is, this is so good. And I know as soon as I burn this, my kids are going to run into the
16:17kitchen and thinking that they need something. So they will be fooled. I'm not, but this is,
16:23oh my gosh, this is so, so good. So, uh, let's see. Gina asks, what are the travel tints in your
16:29website? Your travel tints?
16:32Yes. So we have two sizes right now. These are the 10.58 ounce candles. Burn time is about 60 hours.
16:37We also offer a travel tints size, four ounces, 20 hour burn time. That's available on our website
16:44as well. Um, you know, for folks that are on the go, the tens are really cool, cool to have, um,
16:49on hand. Um, these are also, you can travel with these. I am always in the airport with 10 of these
16:55on hand at all times, and we have no issue with, um, with TSA or security, but the travel tints are a
17:01lot more convenient to travel with than big candles.
17:03So, so good. So I know y'all have at least three candles in your cart already because these
17:10scents are so, so incredible. Um, say I, I would love to know this is in partnership with
17:16new voices family, which is an incredible organization for small black owned businesses.
17:21If you could just let us know what that experience has been like for you to be a part of the
17:26organization. What have, what have you seen as a major benefit?
17:29Oh my goodness. Where do I start? Well, for one, to be here talking to you about our brand
17:34is a blessing. Um, this is something that we, we really appreciate, especially as a small
17:39emerging brand. Uh, we just launched July, 2021. So to have this opportunity and, and outside of
17:46just more awareness about just our story, our candles, um, new voices has really just so much
17:53information between grants, accelerated programs, incubators, um, information about how to pitch
17:58your products, how to raise capital. Um, these things are transformative for businesses like
18:03ours and also being part of this family. I mean, to learn from other incredible founders,
18:08uh, about their journey and, and especially as industry insiders, as I mentioned, our background
18:13is, is legal law. Like we, we don't, we are not candle makers traditionally and perfumery is
18:20something that I, I just do as a hobby, but to be able to, to, to, to move into the space
18:26and to have that support is, is just, it's something that we, we couldn't, we couldn't,
18:31we couldn't pray enough about. And new voices has been so instrumental into our growth as
18:35we scale. And we just appreciate being a part of this amazing, amazing family and organization.
18:40So, so good. So, so good. It's absolutely free to join. So if you are an entrepreneur and
18:46you're in the comments right now, or you're watching at home where they're live on the replay,
18:49I definitely encourage you guys to check out and join the new voices family. They're in the
18:54comments, leaving what you need to know, where you need to go to, um, to actually join the
18:59family. I could be sure I could be talking to you a month from now. It happens all the
19:03time. Somebody in the comments, they apply and then they get the chance to be on shop
19:07essence live and talking about your incredible brands and your incredible products. Um,
19:13Faye, you have been so, so incredible. Um, your products, I cannot wait to burn all of
19:19these. I will, I'm going to fight back the urge to burn every single one. Um, but they're,
19:25they're so amazing. I love to hear a positive word from you, right? Like what, what keeps you
19:31going and persevering through all of the knows, all the setbacks, what has been your why through
19:37your journey as an entrepreneur? Oh, this is the thing we talk about all the time. I would say
19:44we want to, to trailblaze. Um, you know, there, we want to be able to create this, um, this brand
19:54that intersects, uh, intersects fragrance with, with travel and be able to serve as a bridge to
20:00other entrepreneurs looking to move into this fragrance space and to support, um, other brands
20:05with information as we've been supported. And I'll tell you a quick story. So during the pandemic,
20:11when we released, um, Terminal B and, and our candles, one of our customers purchased our Kyoto
20:18inspired candle and the airport code for that is KIX. And she had mentioned to us that she gave this
20:23candle to her friend who's Japanese, but wasn't able to travel back to Japan, you know, due to
20:29restrictions. And she burned this candle every night to remind her of her home. And she had mentioned
20:35that the candle and the scent brought her to tears because she actually lost her grandmother
20:40during the pandemic. And so that candle connected her to Japan and that, that scent is our Hinoki
20:48Cypress. And it definitely reminds me of moments spent in Arashiyama in Kyoto. And I, when I heard
20:54that, I definitely started crying because a lot has happened during the pandemic. We lost so much
20:59and to be able to have that type of impact with our sense, it's like, this is so much more than just
21:05creating candles and fragrances. We really want to create a connection with other people around the
21:09world. And to be able to do that in such a globalized, you know, we're in a very globalized
21:14world right now. It's like, we have friends and family, you know, some of us were born in Nigeria
21:19or Japan or Jamaica. So it's to be able to have that connection through scent to evoke memories.
21:26It's something that told me like, this is, we're doing something right. And this is a brand that you
21:31want to create impact from and also create opportunities for other brands that are behind us. And to just be of
21:38service to our community, as entrepreneurs, you know, so we're all we have. So that's, hopefully that answered
21:45your question.
21:46Oh, my gosh, answer my question. And then some and that is, that's just so inspiring. And as I said earlier,
21:52scent is the quickest way to evoke memories, feelings, and the fact that you are connecting people to their home
22:00when they can't be there, or connecting people to the maybe the happiest moment that a memory of their
22:06lives that they can have at any given moment when they light your candles. It's just so powerful. So
22:13Faye, I have to have to thank you. And I have to thank Terminal B. I got to thank Chris for encouraging
22:20you to Chris is over there, right? Tell Chris, I think he's on the other side. But yes, but Chris is
22:27her husband and co founder. And this is just such an incredible brand. If you're watching live, if
22:33you're watching on the replay, make sure that you try out her candles here, you can shop right here,
22:38the candles, all of the scents that she highlighted today are tagged in this episode, whether you're
22:44watching live. Oh, Chris, I see you Chris. Whether you're watching live, or whether you're watching
22:52on the replay, please do support these black owned businesses. Say you have been so incredible. So
22:59inspiring. Thank you so much for being a part of our first episode on Pinterest TV. This has been so
23:06absolutely so so excited. Thank you so much. Bye guys. Have a good one.
