00:00The queen pin of it all is one thing, I mean she's a business woman at the end of the day
00:04and so if we really just stick with that to like that's what makes it universal
00:08is that you see this really strong woman who also wants to be a good mom
00:13and wants to have be the matriarch of the family
00:16and make something for herself and for her family.
00:25Just to kick things off, I know that you guys are kind of expressing
00:29slightly untraditional mother and son bond, I guess just based on the groundwork
00:36of which everybody is having to relate through, you know, drugs and the family business.
00:42What was it like for you guys to kind of express that mother and son connection on screen
00:46moving into season two?
00:49You start us off, Queen.
00:50I mean, you know, where we get to see them all loved up and really in their moment,
00:56the first season and you really got to watch it over a long extended period of time,
01:00see these two people wanting to protect each other.
01:03One action, one action from Raquel, you know, who's been super strong with like,
01:09stay out of this, being the mother of figure.
01:11They figure thinking things through, one action, sending her son to do something like that.
01:16Two, keep a secret that affects him and all of their worlds.
01:20You know, it's kind of thrown everything out, everything out of alignment
01:23and so the second season is about Rock holding on to power but also trying to hold on to her son
01:29because there is, the trust is a little shaky now and the relationship is complicated.
01:36Forget about whether he finds out that's his son or not,
01:39but she actually sent him to do something that's so damaging, you know, to him as a young person
01:44and so she has to deal with the consequences of that and, you know.
01:49Yeah, there's like this balancing act happening on both sides where, you know,
01:54Rock is, she's holding up this vision that she's now, you know, put into fruition
01:59and she's also trying to hold up her family, her son.
02:02On the opposite side of that thing, for Kanan, it's he's trying to hold up, you know,
02:08who he is or who he thought he was in the world to also, you know,
02:12trying to balance who he is with his family or, you know, what his family life is at this moment.
02:16There's this constant back and forth for him of, you know, feeling and understanding what and why his mom did it
02:25but also feeling and understanding or not understanding why his mom let him do this thing.
02:31So you see a constant back and forth with him just internally dealing with that
02:36and then when they kind of, you know, come together to talk about these things.
02:39You know, they've been a team from day one.
02:44So it's fun to see the different varying degrees and kind of like temperatures and colors
02:50of this conversation that they have throughout the season of like, you know, this was,
02:56like I know I asked for it but I don't know if this is what I wanted.
03:00You know, this is different.
03:01This is a little scary.
03:02And it's like, you know, but I also understand that I did it now and I'm still trying to,
03:07like he's, I think he's trying to ask his mother for somewhat of a grace period
03:12to like fully understand and fully be within this new vision that she set up
03:18because she's, you know, after she sent him to Virginia for that little bit of time,
03:22she came back and, you know, she got right back to work and everything is falling into place.
03:26And when he comes back, you know, she wants to fold him into that while also trying to get closer to him.
03:30She thinks that folding him into that will make them closer when he's really like,
03:35I don't, I don't want anything to do with this right now.
03:37This is scary for me.
03:38This is, so it's really fun to see how they, they balance that throughout
03:42and getting to work through that and play with it, with Bettina has just been the greatest.
03:46And also still finding the love and never losing the love.
03:49I think losing the love is where it goes, goes so, you know,
03:53it's a complicated relationship, but it's still that desire to want to connect with her son
03:58and him wanting to connect in a sense to her to make it make sense, right?
04:02Like he wants her to make it make sense, but it's just not adding up, right?
04:06So that's, I'm really proud of that, what we've done with that in season two as well
04:12as continuing that thread.
04:13Absolutely.
04:15Now Bettina, your character is, there's a lot of layers to it
04:19because you're this strong woman, you're this boss, but you're also trying to,
04:23like you said, find the balance and where to be a mom and be protective
04:27and where to make him this man that he thinks he is
04:31or is trying to convince himself he is or, or learning to be.
04:34What were we able to tap into to kind of like express that duality
04:37that a lot of women have to go through?
04:39Maybe not necessarily being a queen pin, but in life.
04:42What I love about it is that it's not, you know, the queen pin is just the job,
04:45but I think women are out here and women do it every day.
04:48You know, we, we, we handle these high stakes jobs, these high, you know,
04:52we're in these high stakes situations, but we're, we also are super dedicated
04:56to trying to raise our children, our nieces, like, you know what I mean?
05:01There's a lot of people are the, the people in our family and, and being in that.
05:05And so, you know, again, the queen pin of it all is one thing.
05:09I mean, she's a business woman at the end of the day.
05:11And so if we really just stick with that to like, that's what makes it universal
05:15is that you see this really strong woman who also wants to be a good mom
05:20and wants to have, be the matriarch of the family and make something for herself
05:25and for her family, you know, but within that, right, there's like a control thing.
05:29There's like a power and what that means and what, how far you go to get that power
05:34and the things that happen.
05:36All right. Thank you both so much for your time today.
