02:14Hello, hello. Hello. Hello. I'm so happy to have you on Shop Essence Live. I've been such a fan of
02:23your line, naturally. And now I can't wait to hear the story behind this incredible brand. Can you tell
02:29us how you got started and what was the inspiration behind Be Rooted? Oh my god, yes. So I was always that
02:36young girl that had way too many journals, way too many plans. I feel like gift giving has always been
02:42my love language. But when I thought about all of the brands that were in the space, there was really
02:47never that really represented and celebrated women of color. So I thought a long time ago, like, what if
02:53there was this lifestyle brand that was empowering, that was encouraging, that had beautiful, reflective
02:59artwork? And I waited for a long time for someone else to come up with the idea. And I said, you know
03:03what, let me do this. And so I launched Be Rooted at the top of 2020. During the pandemic, with an idea
03:11to change the face of the stationery industry. And so I'm super excited to be on here with you today.

03:21We love, we love. Okay, so this is a, we do a lot of show and tell here. I want to talk about the art as
03:31you're getting into it. I love the intentionality behind the art that you have displayed, because it feels
03:38like it represents such a wide spectrum of us. Like, I know this ain't me, but this could be me if I had two
03:44Afropos, you know what I mean? So it really feels like it does reflect us. Can you talk a little bit about how you
03:50came up with the designs that's featured on your stationery?
03:55Yeah, so me and my team is so intentional about the art. We want to make sure that Black and Brown
04:01women feel overly represented. So when we think about skin tones, when we think about body types,
04:06when we think about hair types, when we think about outfits, we were trying to make sure we're really
04:11hitting the spectrum so you see yourself within our products. We know that Black and Brown women are not
04:16monoliths. We know that we come sizes, shapes, colors, styles. And so when you come to be read it,
04:22you can find yourself seen, heard, and know that you belong here.

05:31Yes. So the first is our journal. Our journals are what we've known for. We started with the
05:39brand. We have our Trusted Journey journal. She has our Limitless. It's such a vibe. As you see,
05:45her girl has Afro. Our girl has, like, lock shop. And I kind of feel like I'm the same vibe as her

06:21I love a good, like, I know that there's an app for everything nowadays. But when we're working,

06:33a thought in your head, and just put it down on paper. So I love a good journal and a good notepad,
06:38for sure. Yes, absolutely. So a lot of girls use this as their sleep journal, their dream journal,
06:45their to-do list, your notebook. A lot of people are like, look, I'm not a dear diary girl. That's
06:50fine. You don't have to write your, you know, hey, this happened to me here. You can leverage
06:55this as a way to just write down your notes. I find that as a Virgo, I keep stuff in my
07:01head. And I'm going to ruminate on it all day long. So if I don't write it down, it feels
07:04like it's not real. And so for the girls that like to have the excess of pages that you can
07:10just write whatever you want to, this is amazing. But for the girls that are like, I'm
07:14going to need you to give me a little bit more guidance. I'm going to need something that

09:04just take time to be more mindful of all the amazing things that are happening in our
09:10life? And this has been such a help for me in my journey, but also a super helpful for
09:14the girl that needs a little bit more guided attention on how to journal.
09:20Oh, that is, can we just pause there for a second? I know a lot of us, we often just have
09:27our eye on the prize or when I get this, then I'll be happier when I get that house and when
09:32my bank account wants it to be what it is. But taking a moment every single day to reflect
09:38on all the blessings that you may have been bestowed upon you that day, I think it's the
09:44best form of just, it's like literally stopping and smelling the roses, but it's holding you
09:50accountable to doing that. And a lot of us are so in the rat race of working from home
09:55that your life is just like one linear thing where you're working all day, you get up, you
09:59got to get the kids together for dinner and then you go to bed and you do it all over
10:03again. It's just like making sure that you're taking this time for yourself. And I absolutely
10:07love how intentional you were on that. Make sure y'all putting this in your cart, save

11:48centered about you and making sure that you're taking the time to prioritize yourself and not
