00:00Being that you are a college student yourself and you've been kind of on a parallel journey
00:04with Zoe Johnson this whole time, what inspiration do you draw from your own
00:08college experiences to bring to a show like Grown-ish where we're going through a college
00:14experience with these kids? I mean what's funny is I feel like it kind of happened in reverse in
00:18that I started filming Grown-ish prior to going to college and so Grown-ish was my first touch
00:23point with college life before I was sent off and Zoe gave me a great roadmap of what not to do
00:29and let me have a pretty successful four years but I really think art started imitating life even
00:36more closely in these past seasons and in this season right now especially with just the juggling
00:42of responsibilities and this feeling that as much as I've grown up and I've been balancing a career
00:48and such with school, college is kind of like a fake adulthood and there's and I'm peering over
00:54into what real life looks like with no summer breaks or kind of arbitrary things getting in
00:59my way and so I feel like a lot of these storylines about Zoe trying to figure out what's next
01:04has been so resonant especially now that we're both seniors. Exactly and so being that you are both
01:12seniors what does that journey feel like being that this character is closing such a big chapter
01:17of her life and moving on to kind of the unknown and you're somewhat doing the same thing? Yeah
01:23uh I mean it's definitely nerve-wracking at times I think what drives both me and Zoe in a way that
01:31I'm proud of is that we do have things that we're passionate about for Zoe it's always been fashion
01:36and so as much as she may be all over the place it has been such a guiding force in her life and has
01:41helped dictate what decisions are important to her so I have faith that she'll land somewhere she's
01:46supposed to be and similarly I hope the same faith applies to me knowing that I love what I'm doing
01:50now and love just the television production space and so that is my guiding light as I step out of college.
