Transcript
00:00Welcome back to the real okay let's jump right back into things now that spring has arrived things have been heating up on our timelines. That's why we couldn't wait any longer to get the juicy scoop. Time to hear what's happening in the world of social media. This is the social feed with Essence.
00:21Joining us today is Essence Magazine's director of social media Charisma DeBerry. Hey Charisma welcome back to the show. Hi ladies. Hi G. Hi. Thanks Charisma I've been thirsting for some tea so give me this all right. Jim Carrey let's talk about this reaction he had. He had a lot to say about Will Smith's behavior. Give us the deets.
00:44Yes so Jim Carrey would have had a much different reaction than Chris Rock had he been the one to receive a five-finger greeting from Will Smith. He says that speaking with CBS News' Gayle King on Monday the actor said he would have immediately filed a hefty lawsuit against the Best Actor winner.
01:04He said I would have announced this morning a $200 million lawsuit against Will Smith because that video is going to be there forever. It's going to be ubiquitous. That insult is going to last a very long time.
01:19But it's very clear that he was not happy and he also sent a lot of love to his friend Chris Rock along with Wanda Sykes who was one of the hosts from the night.
01:30She said that she felt ill after the incident and she felt that Will Smith should have been removed from the building and that she was grossed out that he was allowed to stay and accept his award.
01:41Which is a big deal coming from Wanda Sykes because she was one of the hosts and she did have to continue with her job after the entire ordeal.
01:50Now somebody that's a little bit more shocking who has thrown in their two cents is Zoe Kravitz.
01:56So she took to Instagram with some pretty interesting captions calling the whole ordeal with Will Smith an assault and also stating that he was hurling profanities at the stage.
02:08So she showed her dismay and the internets showed their dismay to her dismay by making sure that her comments aren't shambles.
02:17There was also Amy Schumer who really spoke up about still being triggered right now.
02:21The comedian side of things, I usually never hear comedians feel at all affected by what other people have going on because they seem so tough.
02:28But this is where, you know, you really heard their voices like this is the line.
02:33Well, I think this is going to cause, because what Jim Carrey did is going to cause all the publicists to put a mix on any talking about this.
02:42So you're going to see that they don't want their clients talking about this because it's dividing up people so much.
02:49And Twitter is just ablaze in bringing out CBS receipts on these celebrities that are speaking out.
02:56I turned to you and I said, what a huge difference between Chris Rock saying he doesn't even want to press charges versus Jim Carrey saying, I'm going to sue you for $200 million.
03:06But the crazy thing is, if he did press charges, we wouldn't, we couldn't blame him.
03:10Like he really could do that and nobody would knock him out, knock him down for that.
03:13Yeah, they would.
03:15I don't think so.
03:16It'd be a trial.
03:17Right, right.
03:17Okay, Charisma, NFL star Antonio Brown is at it again.
03:22Oh, Lord.
03:22What is going on?
03:24Yeah, so there is never a dull moment in the world of Antonio Brown.
03:28According to the NY Post, over the weekend, the free agent wide receiver posted a photo on Instagram of him in bed with model Sidney Christine.
03:39That would have not been so astonishing for the superstar.
03:42However, he then posted an alleged DM exchange between the two where he was threatening Christine and saying that he would expose her if she did not return $5,000 from him.
03:56So it appears that there was something taken from him that he did not approve of because in the text message, I mean, in the DM exchange, she's seen pleading for him not to expose her and also saying that she would return the $5,000 if he did not expose her and that she only took the $5,000 because she didn't appreciate the way that he was speaking to her.
04:21So this unfolded in a not so nice way.
04:25And also, it appears she didn't give the money because he exposed her anyway.
04:29What a mess.
04:30I wish the next time somebody spoke rude to me, I'd take $5,000 from them.
04:34Okay.
04:34Make it make sense.
04:36It's all a mess.
04:37Okay.
04:37How'd she get the $5,000?
04:39I just don't understand.
04:40He gave it to her.
04:41Anyway, what's all the drama we're hearing about after Anthony Anderson and his wife?
04:45Spill the tea.
04:45Yeah, so according to people, Anthony and Alvina Anderson are divorcing after 22 years of marriage.
04:53Alvina filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, which is something that most celeb couples do because they don't want us to know all their true business.
05:01But according to the fouling, Alvina is seeking spouse support and also attorney's fees.
05:10And while she is honoring community property laws in California, she had a very specific request for assets to be treated as separate.
05:19And those assets are anything that was earned prior to the marriage and anything that was earned after the separation.
05:26So it seems that Alvina has some assets of her own to protect, but we feel for them because they were high school sweethearts and they do have two children together, Nathan, who's 22, and Kira, who's 26 years old.
05:40So we hate to see a family break up, but wish them the best in their separate journeys.
05:44This is the second time she filed?
05:44Yeah, this is the second time she filed, so it's still a shock.
05:48Well, lastly, our forever niece, Malia Obama, has been hired to write on a new show.
05:54Fill us in about it.
05:55Yes, according to TheHill.com, Donald Glover has hired Malia Obama as a staff writer on his forthcoming show about a Beyonce-esque character, Vanity Fair reports.
06:07Glover, who is also known as Childish Gambino, an executive producer and writer, creator of Atlanta, told the outlet that he enlisted Malia Obama's help for an Amazon series potentially titled The Hive.
06:22Now, a lot of people were saying that this is nothing but nepotism and they can't believe that Malia got this job, but let's be very clear about her credentials and the receipts.
06:32Malia Obama is a Harvard graduate and she has been interning in Hollywood with hopes to become a writer since her freshman year of college.
06:42So, this did not come out of anywhere and Donald Glover is sticking behind his hire.
06:48He said that Malia is amazing and so talented and that she's focused and very hardworking.
06:55That's cool.
06:55I'm excited for her.
06:57I'm excited for her.
06:58And she put in the work.
06:59She entered.
07:00Exactly.
07:00You know, so she put in the work and she graduated.
07:02Give her a chance.
07:03Absolutely.
07:03Because we're asking Ms. Obama, don't, you know, give her a chance.
07:07That's the only reason why she got the job.
07:08Exactly.
07:09Exactly.
07:09Well, at least her parents smart.
07:11Right.
07:12You know that?
07:14And it doesn't help, it doesn't hurt to be Malia Obama.
07:18Right.
07:18But it's fantastic.
07:19But she put in the work though.
07:21They can't act like she just got it.
07:23You got to get a chance from somebody.
07:23Right.
07:24Somebody's got to give you a chance, right?
