00:29to demand the resignation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
00:36In Palestine, Israel's military attacks across Gaza have increased in the past few hours
00:40killing at least 20 Palestinians on Wednesday in violation of the ceasefire.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Telesu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
00:59Marking one month since the United States' attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores,
01:14thousands of citizens mobilized in Venezuela to condemn this atrocious attack and demand the release of President Maduro and First Lady and Deputy Celia Flores.
01:21Tens of thousands of citizens came out to the streets of Caracas, Venezuela today on the one month anniversary of the U.S. government's kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
01:40It was a massive show of support for Venezuela's socialist government and a show of force from the organized working class left.
01:47We are in the streets showing the imperialists that we are a land of peace. We are a land of love. And if this is what we have to do to guarantee the release of our president, we will be here in the streets, whether during the day or the night, holding vigils, praying, whatever it takes.
02:02We will keep coming out to the streets to defend our president.
02:19Shortly after releasing a national security strategy which promised to bring back the United States' imperialist Monroe Doctrine, it attacked multiple sites in Venezuela with missiles, killing a hundred people, including civilians, in violation of international norms.
02:34While analysts in the global north spread disinformation and predicted the collapse of the socialist government, the population rallied behind acting President Delcy Rodriguez with daily protests spreading across the country
02:46that have steadily been growing in size for the past month.
02:53We are demanding the release of Celia and Nicolás.
02:56Exactly one month ago, the U.S. government, represented by the pedophile Trump, invaded Venezuelan soil, killing over one hundred compatriots.
03:08We are mobilized and we will not leave the streets until they return our presidential couple to us.
03:15And we reaffirm our support for Acting President Delcy Rodriguez Gomez.
03:20One month after the kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores, the movement on the streets is only expected to continue to grow as people demand freedom for the kidnapped President of Venezuela and First Lady Celia Flores.
03:37Brian Meir, Tell us Sir Caracas.
03:40And Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is defined by his absolute loyalty to the Bolivarian project and has risen from the union ranks to the presidency of Venezuela.
03:50Let's take a closer look at the life of the Venezuelan head of state.
03:53From his early militancy, he began his political career at the age of 12 in left-wing organizations, OSA's Ruptura and the Socialist League.
04:04Under his union leadership, Nicolas Maduro worked as a metrobus driver in Caracas, where he was the founder and leader of the Public Transport Workers Union.
04:13The President was one of Commander Hugo Chavez's most trusted figures playing strategic roles in the consolidation of the revolutionary movement.
04:24Nicolas Maduro grew close to Hugo Chavez after the 1992 military coup attempt, an event that paved the way for hope in change in a country submitted to extreme poverty as a result of the neoliberal government scheme.
04:38Maduro actively campaigned for the release of Commander Chavez.
04:45In key positions, he was a member of the 1999 National Constituent Assembly, President of the National Assembly between 2005 and 2006, and Foreign Minister between 2006 and 2012, where he consolidated regional integration mechanisms
05:03as well as Alba, Petrocaribe, UNASUR, and CELAC.
05:08Meanwhile, some women make history from the background, others from the Tribune, and a few from the very heart of the hurricane.
05:14Celia Flores has done all three, showing that the revolutionary woman is filled with love, fiery words, and still gaze.
05:20Let's learn more about the life of First Lady and Deputy Celia Flores de Maduro.
05:24Celia Flores de Maduro has not been a figurehead or an appendage of power. She has been the backbone, the legal and political conscience, and also the emotional support of a process that has had to withstand more attacks than those that can be recorded in a war report.
05:42Her jump into national politics came at a crucial time. In 1992, after the civic military rebellion that Commander Hugo Chavez led, Flores was part of the team that defended the rebel military.
05:58Her role was fundamental in obtaining the presidential pardon in 1994, which consolidated her prestige as a legal operator of the emerging revolutionary moment.
06:11With the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution to power, Celia Flores became one of the most influential figures in the new political scenario. She was elected to the National Assembly in the year 2000.
06:23Her parliamentary career reached a historic milestone in 2006, when she became the first woman to preside over the Venezuelan National Assembly, breaking general barriers in a space traditionally dominated by men.
06:38In 2012, she was appointed Attorney General of the Republic, a position from which she defended the legal interest of the state in a context of growing international pressure.
06:49And on Tuesday, one month after the military attack against the country, Venezuela's Acting President, José Rodríguez, highlighted the maturity of the population in overcoming this event and consolidating tranquility and peace.
07:03Acting President made these statements from the Miraflores Palace, accompanied by the Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, Captain Diosdado Cabello, and National Assembly President, José Rodríguez, emphasizing that in the face of external attempts to generate chaos in the nation,
07:17the people have recovered and taken important steps toward national unity.
07:22Similarly, she insisted that any controversy or divergence must be channeled strictly through dialogue and respect for international law.
07:29Rodriguez also confirmed that as part of this process of overcoming differences, she has maintained telephone communications with U.S. President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
07:38Finally, Rodriguez reiterated that the path forward for the Bolivarian revolution is mutual respect in order to build a working agenda despite differences.
07:47Today, we have seen a large march in support of the freedom of President Nicolás Maduro and the first combatant, who were kidnapped in the early hours of January the 3rd.
08:02And yet, we have seen immediately that the institutions of Venezuela acted.
08:09It was activated and there was a statement from the Supreme Court of Justice, where the President of the Court, Urria, ruled that in this case the responsibility fell to me as the Executive Vice President of President Nicolás Maduro.
08:25And from there, we have been building spaces for encounters, the program for democratic coexistence and peace, and activating a political dialogue led by the President of the National Assembly.
08:39Dr. Jorge Rodriguez has activated the Commission of the Revolution for the Justice System in Venezuela.
08:46We have presented to the judiciary a proposal to activate an amnesty, an amnesty law that will allow for this period of political violence and extremism to be overcome and a national policy to be implemented.
09:04Politics in Venezuela must be nationalized among Venezuelans and must be written with a capital P.
09:11And in Mexico, Morena congressmen requested a minute of silence for the victims of the United States' attack on Venezuela.
09:19During a regularization in the Chamber of Deputies, legislators from Morena and the Labour Party formally requested a minute of silence for all the victims of the U.S. attack that ended with the illegal kidnapping of Venezuelan constitutional president Nicolás Maduro Moros
09:33and his wife, deputy and First Lady Celia Flores.
09:40I know the Salvador social movements and the collective for the defense of the Venezuelan embassy gathered in the capital to demand the release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
09:52The demonstration, also including the anti-fascist international, was part of a global day of mobilization marking one month since the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president.
10:00Activists denounced the U.S. siege and reaffirmed their solidarity with the Bolivarian revolution through simultaneous protests in the capital and the western part of the country.
10:09Protesters condemned the U.S. imperialist agenda and demanded respect for the sovereignty of Latin American nations.
10:15We have a first break coming up. First, remember, you can join us on TikTok at TeleStreet English.
10:23We will find news in different formats, news updates and much more. We'll be right back. Stay with us.
10:28Welcome back. On February 4th, Venezuela celebrates National Technic Day, considered one of the pillars of the Bolivarian revolution.
10:41A correspondent Michelle Ramirez with more on this in the following report.
10:58This is the January 23rd neighborhood where the mountain backs are located and where National Dignity Day was born.
11:06That moment in Venezuelan history when Hugo Chavez led a civil-military rebellion to overthrow the then-president Carlos Andres Perez.
11:16For example, the Venezuelan people were a surprise, but a surprise that was in some way foreseeable.
11:31Why? Because the government of Carlos Andres Perez was already going through a huge crisis at that time.
11:40There were daily protests and the government turned a blind eye, turning a deaf ear to the terrible economic situation of corruption and instability.
11:54The mismanagement of the oil boom of the 1970s and 1980s under the presidency of Carlos Andres Perez forced him to take unpopular measures,
12:03such as increasing the price of fuel, urban transportation and interest rates, while calling for the understanding of the Venezuelan people.
12:11If I chose the easy way out by trying to avoid the difficulties and hide the reality, all Venezuelans would respond with positive understanding.
12:29If we come together, as I am doing now, to build a country capable of standing on its own two feet.
12:38But the response was not what was expected. The population responded with protest and looting of stores in search of food. The government responded by deploying the army.
12:48Faced with this social discontent, the people saw in the figure of a young Hugo Chavez a beacon of hope.
12:58And it served to foster a hope that was not necessarily visible at that moment in terms of the elections, but rather a hope that there were sectors very concerned about what was happening,
13:15and that in some ways wanted a radical change that was necessary at that time in the country. A radical change that came to pass after the 1998 elections with the triumph of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías.
13:33The military mobilization arrived at the Miraflores Palace at that moment, but it did not have the desired result as Hugo Chávez himself acknowledged.
13:42Unfortunately for now, the objectives we set for ourselves were not achieved in the capital city.
13:52He was in prison for two years. Upon his release, he participated in the 1999 elections, which he won by a large margin.
13:59As president, he called for the prevention of a new armed incursion, but with the following warning.
14:05The so-called Caracasos were a response to the measures that, at the time, suffocated the population. And that is how now these streets of the January 23rd neighborhood capture all the meaning derived from the mobilization of the civil-military union, known as national dignity.
14:23And in Venezuela, acting President Delsi Rodriguez strengthened diplomatic ties with Italy, Qatar and Nicaragua in a move that reaffirms the country's strategy of forming alliances with key players in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.
14:36Delsi Rodriguez led the protocolary ceremonies at the Miraflores Palace, where she received the credentials of three new ambassadors accredited to the country. The first to be received was the Ambassador of Italy, Giovanni Humberto De Vito, whose accreditation consolidates.
14:49A process of rapprochement begun at the end of 2023. Subsequently, the president received the credentials of the new Ambassador of the State of Qatar, Salman Naveed Mubarak Abdullah al-Kulafi, in a ceremony that ratified the strategic alliance between the two nations.
15:08The day concluded with the reception of the designated Ambassador of Nicaragua, Valesca Fiorella LĂłpez Herrera. During the meeting, the cooperation agenda was reviewed and the commitment to regional integration was reaffirmed.
15:33And in this regard, Acting President Rodriguez took to her Telegram account to address the encounter, highlighting this extraordinary bilateral meeting falls within the framework of Bolivarian peace diplomacy.
15:49We are moving towards the construction of a new world with relations based on respect, dialogue and cooperation, strengthening the brotherhood between our peoples and international collaboration.

16:29Welcome back. Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the Philippine House of Representatives to demand the resignation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
16:43The protests took place during a legislative hearing to evaluate the validity of multiple impeachment petitions filed against the President for corruption.
16:50Among the accusations is a scandal related to the management of funds for flood control projects, which sparked public outrage.
16:57These protests came at a time when the Philippine political scene is immersed in heated debates over the course of the impeachment complaints
17:05and the possibility of referring them to the next constitutional stages amid political divisions.
17:20In Russia, Ukrainian artillery attacks in the province of Kherson left four civilians dead and 13 others injured.
17:30The Kiev offensive focused on residential areas and public service centers, showing the criminal nature of Ukrainian forces.
17:37Local Governor Vladimir Saldo pointed out the direct impact on a public service center that claimed the lives of three people,
17:43as well as an artillery attack on a house that killed an 88-year-old woman.
17:47In this context, the Marine Services provided assistance to the 13 injured and assessed the damage to the civil infrastructure.
17:54The local government also denounced that the constant fire over the last days seriously compromises safety in multiple settlements in Kherson.
18:17In Palestine, Israel's military attacks across Gaza have increased in the past few hours, getting at least 20 Palestinians on Wednesday in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
18:34According to local sources, the skies above Gaza City and Hanjunis, including the main roads leading to Nasser Mariko Complex, are filled with Israeli drones and fire jets, making movement on the ground increasingly risky.
18:45Of the at least 20 Palestinians killed across Gaza this Wednesday, 11 were killed in the Tufa and Seitu neighborhoods of Gaza City, including two baby girls.
18:56Moreover, two people were killed, one of them a paramedic, and 12 were wounded by Israeli air attacks on the Al-Mawazi tent camp.
19:03This is part of Israel's combination of military tactics and political pressure against the Palestinian people only days after the reopening of the Rafah border crossing.
19:11The spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, Wright Al-Nimz, said the organization was informed of the evacuation of patients and wounded individuals via the Rafah crossing, which has been canceled for Wednesday.
19:29And as a guard right, Al-Nimz stated that the procedure was to have sick and wounded arrive at the Red Crescent Society Hospital for checkups before being moved to Rafah crossing in order to seek medical attention in Egyptian hospitals.
19:42This way, Israel continues to block Palestinians from exiting Gaza via the Rafah crossing.
19:47On Tuesday, only 16 Palestinians were allowed to cross into Egypt via Rafah to receive medical treatment.
19:52It is far below the 50 Palestinians who Israeli officials said would be allowed to travel in each direction via the crossing.
19:59For their part, the Israeli military agency that controls aid to Gaza has claimed that the Rafah crossing has opened this morning as usual.
20:20And according to official statements, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has been killed in Libya.
20:28Gaddafi's lawyer and political advisor announced a 53-year-old's death on Facebook on Tuesday without providing details.
20:35Othman said that armed men killed Gaddafi in his home in Sintan, a town located about 136 kilometers southwest of Tripoli, the capital of Libya.
20:44Gaddafi's political team later released a statement saying that four masked men had stormed his house and killed him in a cowardly treasurer's assassination.
20:52Gaddafi was considered his father's second-in-command from 2000 until 2011 when he was killed by Libyan opposition forces ending his decade-long rule.
21:07And on Tuesday, Angolan President Joel Lorenzo announced that Angola will host the first Global Investment Summit in Africa before the end of the year.
21:14The summit aims to establish a secure, sustainable, and mutually beneficial institutional bridge.
21:20During the launch of the forum, Lorenzo said that he would work with African countries to offer investors stable regulations, transparent incentive schemes, and respect contracts.
21:30He presented the meeting in the context of the World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and stressed that Africa is ready to explore new ways to attract global capital.
21:40Lorenzo added that this represents a paradigm shift in this area.
