Entertainment Editor Rivea Ruff, sits down with T. D. Jakes and discusses the cast of his Lifetime series, Wrath & Greed, A Seven Deadly Sins Story.
Transcript
00:00With this particular cast that you've chosen for these two films, what was it about their
00:05performances or their just status in the media that made you want to gravitate towards them
00:10to star in Greed and Wrath? To me, it is really largely about the alignment of stars because
00:21sometimes you got people you want, but they're not available. Sometimes you got people you want,
00:26but you can't afford them. You know, that sort of thing. So it's finding somebody who is available,
00:34can play the role, is in the right age to play the particular character, and has the chops to do
00:40the job, and perhaps the platform to help promote it. That's star alignment. And these two movies
00:49aligned really, really well. You know, when you look at the cast and the diversity of the cast
00:57from the different worlds they come from, it was a great alignment. And I think the films
01:03both benefit from that alignment.
01:07Wonderful. So why did you decide to tell these stories in this particular order? Are you going
01:12by the Seven Deadly Sins in any particular order, or is it just whatever comes to you at the time?
01:17I know you did, was it Lust and Envy last year?
01:20Yeah, Lust and Envy. Yeah, yeah. We came out the gate with Lust because it's provocative and
01:26everybody wanted to see what Bishop Jakes had to say about Lust, you know. But also, you also have to
01:35look at the author and Victoria Murray and what she did with the book that influences it, how it's listed
01:42in the Bible that influences it, and where we are in the world at that moment. You know, we're living
01:50in a time of rage. Just utter rage. And all you have to do is go on social media, you can say good
01:57morning and get cussed out, you know. Very true. You know, people just, they're just angry. So I thought
02:05wrath at a time that we are seeing so much rage in the world is so important. And it has been
02:13interesting over the last 10 years or so to watch what people will do for money. Yeah, it's been,
02:24it's ripped across. It's a leading cause of divorce, not infidelity, economics. So it's interesting what
02:33people will do to get ahead. You almost can't trust your grandmother. You know, so I thought those
02:41would be two interesting topics to talk about, particularly at a time that the world is dealing
02:48with economic issues and rage issues.
