00:00how y'all doing today I am great I'm great feeling good you ladies are looking good thank you
00:14yes it really is right so it looks like we were speaking at you okay ma'am I'm loving what you
00:22have on very nice very nice okay Felicia let's start with you you are a Chi-Town native yes living
00:31here in NOLA yes tell us about how you got into blogging well over 10 years ago I unfortunately
00:40but fortunately experienced domestic violence and so I didn't know anything about domestic violence
00:46I had never heard about domestic violence and so someone spoke into my life that I should start a
00:51blog I didn't even know what a blog was there was no courses on blogging and so it was just a
00:57platform for me to share my story share with other women what I had learned about domestic violence
01:02it was a safe passage for women who were also going through it to communicate with me and so I took that
01:09and then it turned into what it is now currently a lifestyle blog love it well thank you so much we
01:16do appreciate your bravery and your transparency so yes let's give it up for Felicia you all yes thank
01:23you very inspiring story Sam I love your style you know I do honey I live for it how would you describe
01:31it um my I would describe my style as um a bit of classic you know because what I wear now I can wear
01:4110 years from now I try to keep it classic because I don't too much keep up with the trends every now
01:46and then I might buy something trendy but I like to um have a classic closet where it can go from 10
01:50years ago to 10 years from now so I keep it classic with a little bit of jazziness yes yes okay so tell
01:57me this how do you empower others to unlock their own personal style well hopefully I empower them by
02:03being authentic you know I'm being true to myself and I hope that rubs off on those who do you know
02:08follow me or who follow my blog just to stay true to themselves because it's not about what other
02:13people are doing or what the trends are it's about what feels good in your soul so I tell people to
02:18unlock their personal style by doing what they like if they like to rock tennis shoes all the time do
02:22that you know that's your personal style so just by being true to yourself yeah all right Tracy yes
02:29tell us a little bit about your personal style and how you use your platform to inspire others
02:34well my personal style is a little bit of I'm running around I'm running behind children a lot
02:39so it is definitely comfortable but cute um when I'm not running behind children I'm always in a suit
02:46I love a suit it makes me feel empowered it makes me feel just just like a boss and um it's just
02:54something I've always gravitated towards I'm not a dress girl I've always been a pants type chick so
02:58this is this is me um I inspire I feel like because I am extremely authentic and raw on my platform I
03:07talk about my anxiety struggles I talk about you know being a mom with two little kids who've gone
03:12through a pandemic and um homeschool for the first time um I feel like I am I connect a lot with um people
03:21who are on the same path as myself so awesome how did you get your start Tracy so I work for an
03:28education online publication and it can get very heavy we talk about um education and justice racial
03:35inequality and I started by just kind of this was my outlet this was fun it was something that took my
03:42mind off of the blogs and the stories that I was reading um because again I do have anxiety and a lot
03:48of those stories were triggering so I needed something that I was able to just smile about and just be happy
03:54about so I it just snowballed into this and it's fun and I love showing my personality I love showing my
04:02kids I love showing my style so I'm good and we love that we love seeing you share all of that on social
04:10media it is extremely inspiring Felicia how did you get your start um as I mentioned someone else actually
04:19saw more in me than I saw in myself um at the current time when I started blogging over 10 years
04:24ago so it was my passion for storytelling which came natural to me I always develop characters and
04:31wrote short stories I always love to read and so I just put all of those skills together and put it on
04:36the platform and that's what um helps people stay connected to me it's a place that you feel you're
04:43talking to your home girl you don't have to put on a facade to come to my blog um in particular
04:48again I took you through my life's journey with me even the bad sides what domestic violence look
04:53like until adulthood with me so I got my start just by starting and telling my story and staying
05:00consistently showing up um and it has brought me here today love it thank you for that and Sam
05:06how did you get your start girl I've been putting together outfits since I can remember listen I would
05:12my mother used to have these slips that women used to wear under their dresses I would take my
05:17mother slip put a belt around it put her hip her heels on put a hat on and be styling through the
05:21house and take pictures so I've been doing that then when I got to high school I fell in love with
05:26English class but no one ever told me that you could make writing a career you know they always tell
05:31you you know go be a doctor go be a lawyer go be this but they never tell you you can do stuff
05:35creative stuff like writing so when I got to college um I majored in mass comm and I I loved writing
05:43that was my passion and so I started writing for a publication a fashion publication and I thought
05:48well you know what I can do this for myself as well and so I like to style and I like to um basically
05:53talk about my life experiences so people can see themselves through me so I started putting that
05:57together then I became a freelance writer and so now I write about fashion for a living and um style
06:04for a living basically look at that look how you just come full circle right betting on yourself and
06:09just simply starting getting out of your own way out of your own head and really following the
06:15path okay okay ladies if there's one piece in your closet that can give you the most confidence
06:21one piece what would that piece be I'll start with you Tracy a suit of course yes I probably have
06:32about 10 suits that I've accumulated over the pandemic where am I going to the grocery store
06:39I will wear a suit to the grocery store I have no problem with doing that but yeah
06:42a suit a suit love it Felicia for me it's always jeans I love me a pair of denim jeans um even on
06:50the way here I was going through 50 pairs of jeans and my boyfriend was like they all look the same just
06:57pick one so I have to say jeans don't do that don't do that to you and Sam what is that one piece
07:04make you feel the most confident I I really can't say that I have that one piece because like my brand
07:11is style and energy so it's about basically working on your insides and the more you work on your insides
07:16you look better on the outside so I would say I actually I'm most confident when I'm dressed down
07:22just t-shirt shorts you know flip-flops hair pulled back yes that is my get up that's my thing you know um
07:30dressing up I love to do but dress down that's who Sam is you know and I just make a style however
07:36I do it because I'm concentrating on the inner style instead of the outer style love that love that
07:41so one at a time let's see who I'll go with look at Tracy Tracy like listen do not call on me
07:49I got you Tracy I'll start with you Felicia
07:55so what is your definition of style being confident and comfortable in who you are your
08:03very essence um and whatever that means to you it's not something that society has placed on you
08:09it's not anyone else belief or free or fear being placed on you it's just who you are and what you
08:16believe and who you have evolved into in that moment love that yes Sam I'm gonna give um I'm gonna give
08:25Tracy a little break I would come back off of Felicia um style is what you make it there's no one
08:31definition of style it's about your your aura you know what I'm saying it's it's no one definition
08:36it's whatever it is you want to be if it's a signature piece that's your style it's like it's
08:41no one definition you know it's just about your aura and being authentic to who you are that style
08:46love that I mean that's it I mean it is it is all about how you carry yourself for yourself
08:54you know if you want to rock jeans and a t-shirt and feel like you know the bomb do you you know if
09:00you want to wear a suit and feel it's just your confidence the way that you love yourself the way
09:05that you talk to yourself and when you talk to yourself in that uplifting manner you put those
09:11clothes on yeah that's that's your style yeah so everything starts from the inside and radiates
09:18on the outside correct yes no right or wrong it's just people's choices there's no right or wrong
09:23I love that love that um we have time for a little Q&A okay oh no you're like a little Q&A
09:30want to do that yes yes anyone have any questions anything fashion beauty style self-love self-care
09:39confidence well I have one of course right tell me what is the definition of self-love to you Sam
09:49self-love to me is um accepting me and all of my flaws basically um being comfortable with who I am
09:58who I'm growing to be um making peace with my past that's self-love and giving myself grace
10:04that's self-love that's something I've been working on um for the past few years is giving myself grace
10:09I can give grace to the old lady at the grocery store that I don't know give grace to this person
10:14over here but I tend to neglect myself I tend to be more hard on myself so I'm working on giving myself
10:19more grace and that constitutes self-love for me just accepting what I've been born with accepting who I
10:25am love that love that what about you Felicia I would have to say knowing yourself first um was
10:34definitely a big leap for me with self-love um I was always who everybody else wanted me to be
10:40doing what everybody else wanted me to do so I learned to love myself just by spending quality
10:46time with myself doing things alone being away from the crowd being away from what's popular what's
10:52trending um and learning about who Felicia is what does Felicia like um what does Felicia like to go
10:58what does Felicia like to do when it's just Felicia and in order to have that love for myself like I
11:04currently do now it took those moments of isolation um to be able to experience self-love it's about
11:11experience for me yes definitely giving yourself grace giving yourself time to rest being okay with
11:18resting being okay with where you are um telling yourself that you love yourself and truly believing that
11:27um definitely the pandemic has I think quieted a lot of our minds especially with us being
11:33influencers we always felt like we had to go somewhere be on a go and having to sit and being
11:39still with yourself and with your thoughts and having to come to terms with who you are and just
11:46falling in love with yourself day by day right we love that Paris we want to hear from you
11:50really yeah self-love to you yes um self-love to me is really not dimming your light to make other
12:01people feel comfortable with you being who you are wholeheartedly being who God has created you to be
12:08that's loving yourself to me just being out there being bold caring for yourself not settling in life
12:15not doing things to please others or in a career to please others or in a relationship to please
12:22others dressing to please others just loving you getting to know yourself loving yourself enjoying
12:29your own company so to me self-love is not dimming your light self-love is being yourself wholeheartedly
12:36and unapologetically
12:37yes yes yes yes yes yes yes okay well can you tell us about your personal style what is style to you
12:47so the questions are on me I like it okay thank you um my personal style is sexy and classy I love to
12:58dress classy but I also like to be sexy as well um and when I say classy meaning the suit that I'm wearing
13:05but I also love bodycon dresses and you know things like that so sexy and classy would be
13:11my personal style to me I love being glammed up dressed up hair makeup I love it all honey
13:18I love it all yes so that's pretty much what my my personal style is yes okay do you have a style
13:26inspiration like who inspires you
13:28who inspires me you know who really inspires me and because she takes so many risks um Tracy Ellis Ross
13:38I really love her style I love because she's not put in a box you know she's very diverse in her style
13:46so I I do love that and that is something that I aspire to to do more of dress down and joggers with
13:53um heels and you know I love that so tennis shoes with dresses so I really do I love Tracy Ellis Ross
14:00style but of course her mother is Diana Ross so the apple don't fall too far from the tree right
14:05okay yes so yeah I love Tracy's style as well I love um her versatility yeah yeah and I love that she
14:12doesn't have to always have heels on but she can rock a pair of heels like confidently so I do I love her
14:18and um this might be aging me a little bit but I love Khalees for a long time oh did you yeah
14:23definitely yes um is she just like rocks her own drum so I just I really like people that just do
14:30what they do regardless of what the trends are what people are saying yeah I really love Monica
14:36I think I resonate more with Monica outside of the look and the haircuts um but her long legs you know
14:42I have long legs um her her her shape of her body her intellect everything about her and definitely
14:49her style she'll rock like a b-boy like home girl time girl and she'll make it so chic and classy
14:57um and that resonates with me that's exactly how I you know envision myself when I look for inspiration
15:03what about you Tracy uh Janelle Monae definitely and Tracy Ellis Ross I mean obviously they are two
15:11women who are always in pants and suits and they're extremely confident in them and I love a
15:18woman who just doesn't you know just can just rock what she rocks and just doesn't care I love that too
15:24and not overthinking it not worrying about what other people may say or think or what's what's
15:29trending now I love that I love a bold confident woman who just rocks it okay like you will deal you
15:37I don't care if that bell bottoms aren't in or what have you I'm going to wear these I'm going to
15:42look good and feel good about myself so yeah I love that too Tracy it's about what's um doing what
15:48feels good to you you know doing what feels good to you rocking what you would like to wear you know
15:53it's not about what the crowd says it's about what you like you know a lot of people will say well how
15:58are you going to wear joggers on the panel for that's what I like you know I'm saying you look
16:02fabulous with it okay I like yes and I'm sitting as comfortable as I don't know that's right that's
16:07what it's about yeah yes that's exactly what it's about how did you get your start Paris um my start
16:13in blogging I got my start in because I was in graduate school in Minnesota and I was bored okay
16:22so yes I have my undergraduate degree in um criminal justice minor in psychology and I actually just
16:30ran off to grad school because I didn't want to go to law school okay so I just went to grad school
16:35instead but while there um I discovered style blogging and I never knew anything about style blogging um I
16:46never knew that you can actually do that for a living and when I saw a lot of girls doing it
16:51I said well this is something I've been doing I've been getting dressed up and taking pictures
16:56and looking good and posting it just on Facebook at that time so I decided to start a blog strictly
17:03out of boredom because what I was studying I was not interested in it I did eventually finish
17:09graduate school but in term I decided just to work for myself in fashion beauty and style so it came full
17:17circles yeah yes yep so it's been good I've been enjoying it and I enjoy you ladies I enjoy you
17:26all just enjoy you yeah thank you thank you yes I enjoy you just putting yourselves out there expressing
17:32your style your beauty your confidence and I also enjoy more so the transparency you know we need more
17:39of that now right yes we need to let people know that you know it's not just about dressing it up but
17:46also how do you feel on the inside that's what really matters that's yes if you are not well on
17:53the inside it will show on the outside yes it will inside is the first place you should basically dress
17:59that's the first thing you should style on the inside yeah yes then get to the outside how can we style
18:04inside one tip one tip that's a good question one tip and why would you limit me to one okay one tip um
18:11you have so many well I I read a lot that helps me you know we're growing and also yoga yoga is my um
18:19like my religion um yoga helps me to be mentally disciplined of course physically disciplined but
18:24it helps me to calm my mind and just to be one with my inner god so that has helped me a lot in
18:30working on my inside love that what do you say tracy uh meditation and cbd all right okay
18:38all right yes I would have to say being present definitely being present and in tune with what's
18:48going on in front of you um listening to nature definitely helped me quiet um a lot of the chaos
18:55going on around me um and you know past life present and definitely like Sam said reading I
19:01learn a lot from reading I'm a visual learner and so sometimes I have you could be talking to me like
19:06this and I'm not going to comprehend it but if I read what you just said i on your blog I got it
19:12you only got to tell me once I got it what about you for me I would say that it's journaling yoga
19:19and meditation those three oh my god that really really helps me journaling really helps me because
19:26it is it's so therapeutic you're able to get these ideas and thoughts or whatever happened
19:33out your head on into onto paper and it's so good when you write down maybe like you're using as a
19:40prayer journal so good that when you write it down you're writing down your prayers you can go back and
19:45you know actually read those things and realize that you're currently living in answer prayers so
19:51it's so good just to sit there and write down your hopes your dreams your goals your plans what have
19:57you right so yes journaling yoga and meditation stretching it out stretching the body balancing
20:05meditating and um praying and you know definitely just taking care of yourself wholeheartedly yes yeah
20:14okay ladies hope you enjoy this whole style kiki with some of our favorite bloggers here in new orleans
