00:01Mr. Lokeman, Madeline doesn't have a mother to model after.
00:04I am well aware of what my daughter doesn't have.
00:08You think you can do this, but you can't.
00:10No, man, you're right. I can't do it.
00:12But you know what? I'm going to do it because I'm a father.
00:20I loved you in this role and just this sensitive character
00:23where the humor is more subtle.
00:25I would love if you could talk about what drew you to the script.
00:28What drew me to the script was the story and the fact that it was true.
00:31And getting a step outside of, you know, my comfort zone.
00:37You know, I've been waiting for the right piece of material for quite some time.
00:41And the upside when I got to work with Bryan Cranston, Nicole Kidman,
00:46that was giving my audience just a little glimpse into the world of me as an actor
00:52and what I'm capable of.
00:53And I said, when the next right thing comes along, I'll embrace the drama even more.
00:57And fatherhood was that. It gave me the tools, the ammunition that I felt like I needed
01:02to really just show the progression of me and my craft.
01:08And in this case also, you know, getting to do something for the better of good.
01:13You know, the opportunity to play a black father and show a black father in a positive light in times where it's very less.
01:24You don't see it. You know, it's a typical thing where we're either in jail, out of jail, on drugs, getting off drugs or vacant, coming back in life, etc.
01:35It's kind of always the same. So this is one that was a little positive.
01:41It was one of want and one of need and one of love.
01:45So all hours put me to go.
01:48Okay. And, you know, as a dad, I'm curious what scenes or moments you really related to the most.
01:55Um, I mean, you gotta be honest with you. I think the ones that really, that really popped, uh, the hair for sure.
02:06Okay. Definitely struggled trying to do my, my rose head, uh, heaven.
02:12It was times where I was left with the responsibility. I just didn't know what to do.
02:16Yeah.
02:17The hat collection was amazing.
02:19Um, you know, um, also just the, the, the advice, the communication, the realizing that you're dealing with a little person.
02:28And, you know, there was a, there's a scene where we're about to go and get on a plane and Maddie asked me a question.
02:36And she was like, it's always just us. Why is it always just us? It's never, it's never anybody else.
02:41And, you know, there was moments with me, um, when I started to realize like my kids talking to me and they're young adults, like they, they are expressing themselves.
02:51They have feelings, they, they, they, they have a mind and they want clarity.
02:57They want information and, you know, learning how to distribute it and give it properly.
03:02It's a, it's a learning, it's a learning curve.
