00:00Mix it fast. If your Instant Pot Duo display shows on, but the timer won't start counting down,
00:05your unit is still preheating and hasn't reached pressure yet. Here's what's happening and when to
00:10worry. Step 1. Understand the preheating phase. When you press a cooking button, the display shows on.
00:17This means the Instant Pot Duo is heating the contents to build pressure. The timer will not
00:22start until the float valve pops up and the unit reaches full pressure. Preheating takes 5 to 20
00:27minutes depending on the amount of food, liquid temperature, and whether ingredients are frozen.
00:31This is normal. Do not open the lid during this phase. Step 2. Check the steam release handle.
00:37If the display shows on for more than 20 minutes, check the handle on top of the lid. It must be
00:43turned to sealing, not venting. If it's in venting, steam escapes and the pot can't build pressure.
00:49Turn the handle clockwise to sealing and wait. Step 3. Check if the float valve is rising.
00:54Look at the float valve on the lid. It's the small silver pin. When pressure builds,
00:59this pin pops up and locks the lid. If the display shows on, but the float valve hasn't risen after
01:0415 minutes, you may not have enough liquid. Cancel the program, release any steam by turning the handle
01:11to venting, and wait for the float valve to drop. Open the lid and add at least half a cup of thin liquid
01:16like water or broth. Step 4. Check for a loose sealing ring. If the float valve still won't rise,
01:22the sealing ring may not be installed properly. Open the lid and press the silicone ring firmly
01:27into the groove all the way around. Make sure there are no gaps or twists. A loose ring lets steam
01:32escape and prevents pressure buildup. If your sealing ring is stretched, cracked, or over 18 months old,
01:38it won't seal properly and needs replacement. I've linked official Instant Pot Duo replacement

01:48If you're cooking a large amount of food or using frozen ingredients, preheating can take up to 30
01:54minutes. The Instant Pot Duo is working correctly. The timer will start automatically once pressure is
01:59reached. If your Instant Pot Duo shows on for more than 30 minutes and the float valve never rises,
