00:00Fix it fast!
00:02If your Instant Pot Duo is leaking steam from the sides of the lid,
00:05your unit can't build pressure, and your food won't cook properly.
00:09Here's how to seal it and start cooking.
00:11Step 1. Check the sealing ring installation.
00:14Open the lid and look at the silicone ring on the inside edge.
00:18The ring must sit completely flat in the groove with no gaps, twists, or bulges.
00:22Remove the ring by pulling it out from any point.
00:25Wash it with warm soapy water and dry it completely.
00:28Reinstall by stretching the ring over the metal sealing ring rack
00:31and pressing it firmly into the groove all the way around.
00:34The ring should not pucker or stick out anywhere.
00:37Step 2. Check for food debris on the ring.
00:40Even small bits of food can break the seal.
00:42Remove the sealing ring and inspect it carefully.
00:45Check the groove in the lid for trapped food particles.
00:48Wipe the groove clean with a damp cloth.
00:50Check the rim of the inner pot for stuck food or grease.
00:53Clean it with a sponge and dry it thoroughly before cooking.
00:56Step 3. Check if the sealing ring is damaged.
00:59Look for cracks, tears, or stretched areas.
01:02The ring should be firm and elastic, not loose or floppy.
01:05If the ring is stretched, cracked, or over 18 months old, replace it.
01:09I've linked official Instant Pot Duo sealing rings in the description.
01:12Step 4. Check the lid alignment.
01:15Close the lid by lining up the arrow on the lid with the unlocked symbol on the rim.
01:19Turn the lid clockwise until the arrow lines up with the locked symbol.
01:23You should hear a click.
01:24If the lid doesn't click or feels loose, open it and close it again with more force.
01:29Step 5. Check the inner pot placement.
01:32Make sure the stainless steel inner pot sits flat on the heating element with no wobble.
01:37Moisture on the bottom of the inner pot can cause poor contact.
01:40Remove the inner pot, wipe the bottom completely dry, and wipe the heating element with a dry cloth.
01:46Place the inner pot back inside and press down gently to ensure good contact.
01:51If steam still leaks from the sides after these checks, contact Instant Pot Support using the link in the description.
