00:00Hi, I am Dr. Sabrina, the people expert, because I help people, with people, even if that person
00:11is themselves, because oftentimes we think it's somebody else with the problem, and it's really
00:15us with the problem. But I want to thank Essence for this opportunity to serve women around the
00:22globe. And Essence has continually been the forerunner in helping women realize the whole
00:29them, activate the whole them, and to really walk out their vision in every area of their life,
00:35not just in their career, not just in their business, but with their fashion, with their
00:40relationships. Essence is the pioneer, and we thank you for that. And so just a little bit more about
00:46me. I am a clinical therapist by trade. I am a life coach, executive coach. I am a speaker, and I speak
00:53all over the world. And I have just been appointed a peace ambassador to the UN. Yes, making sure
01:00that women around the world have a voice in the peace movement around the world. And I am an author,
01:08and I'm a mama. But at the end of the day, I'm a woman. Being a woman holds a certain level of power
01:16in it, because as a woman, we are the doorway to the universe. And because of that, no one gets here
01:22unless they get here through one of us. So we have to make sure, ladies, that our visions are tight
01:28and bright. So I am excited to be with you today. Yes, yes, yes. I know all of us have been invited
01:37to a vision board or visioning activity. Oh my goodness. I never liked vision boards. I just never
01:46did. One of the reasons that I did not like them was because I didn't want to hang them in my walls where
01:52I had aesthetically done my fashion and beauty of the decorum of my home, and the vision board wouldn't
01:59go with it. Secondly, I always says, what if I did this elaborate vision board, and then God gave me a
02:05new vision tomorrow? Do I have to do a whole new board? So I decided that I wanted to create another
02:13way of looking at visioning. And so I created my essential vision atlas. And the atlas is a book of
02:20maps. And so this is a book of maps to your vision. And let me say this, your vision is broader than just
02:28your career, broader than just a relationship, broader than just making money. I really want to
02:36nestle down and laser-like focus the different categories and spaces in our life that we need
02:42to make sure that we have a vision around. Because I think sometimes we get so siloed into one area
02:47that we don't make sure that the whole of us is taken care of. And we're really looking ahead for
02:54what we want our life to look like. Because I truly believe what you think is what you speak,
03:00and what you speak is what you create. So if you're looking at your life today, whether it's your
03:04business, whether it's your vision, whether it's your relationships, and you don't like it, you need
03:09to think differently. So when you begin to think differently, you have to see it differently. Because I truly
03:14believe if you see it with your mind's eye, you will be able to see it with your physical eye.
03:21Let me begin by telling you a little story about me. I have always been the type of person that has
03:27been seen as a go-getter, seen as a person that follows their dreams, follow what they want to do.
03:33But I had gotten to a point after I had my child that I became stagnated, that I felt like I was stuck
03:40in a rut. I could not move forward. I had some things that I wanted to do, but I could not pull
03:44them together. And so instead of me doing a vision board, I decided to take my vision and put them in
03:52a book. And so not only did I put them in a book, what I was able to do in the book, of course, I would
03:58put pictures, I put actual pictures of myself, but I also would draw. And I'm not a person who can draw,
04:04but I would just draw because the energy that goes into me drawing my vision is so powerful.
04:10And so I put all these things in a book. And what I also did is I will walk back when that thing
04:16manifested and I would write with a red marker the date that it came to pass. And so I did that
04:24continuously all throughout the year, did it all throughout the year. And then one day at the end
04:28of the year, I just took my book and I began to thumb through it. As I thumbed through it, I saw all
04:35the red and it overwhelmed me. Oh my goodness, the manifestation that occurred in my life because I was
04:42writing and putting those visions down in my book. A lot of times people sometimes are a little leery
04:48about whether or not this visioning thing really works. Let me tell you something. It works. I am a
04:56example of it working. Sometimes I can just think a thing, write it down like in a pad of paper.
05:04And before I get home that day, that person is called or something has happened. And so we have to
05:10really understand how powerful we are with our thoughts, with our words, and our actions of what we're
05:17doing. Okay, so let me tell you what you're going to need. You can go and order your Essential
05:24Vision Atlas. And if you look at it, it's a very nice size book because I wanted the pages to be
05:31large and they're heavy. They're heavy. So it's almost like the pages that you would have on a
05:38poster board, but they're put in a book. And so you can order it at drsabrinabooks.com. Again,
05:46drsabrinabooks.com. Go there and order it. It'll be shipped right out to you. But let me tell you what
05:51else you're going to need. Markers. Yes, yes, yes. All different colors because you want to have the
05:57different colors. And let me say this about this one. This red marker, keep to the side. The red
06:03marker is specifically to put the date when your vision manifests. Then you need magazines, things to
06:13cut out from. So magazines that you can have words and that the words you have really speak to you or
06:21speak to what you want to see in your life. And then, of course, stickers and different stickers that
06:27can have hearts or emotions, happy faces, or things that you like. Like if you're a Delta, you might want
06:34an elephant. And then words. So I've already cut out some for my work page. The A-list. I want to be
06:43an A-lister in my career. I want to be an A-lister in the area that I am focusing in on. So I have cut
06:49that out that I can put it right in my book so that when I look at it in my workspace, I absolutely know
06:56that that's what I'm talking about. Glue stick or glue. You need glue because you're going to have to
07:02put your pages that you write on or tear out in your book. And then I love, love, love sticky notes.
07:10Because sticky notes, you may not find the word in the magazine that you like. You may not have the
07:16words, but when God downloads them to you, you can write them right on your thing. And different colors
07:22may mean different things to you. You can put them in your Atlas. And then, of course, I have
07:28scissors. You need scissors so you can cut out what things you want out of the magazines. But let
07:34me say this as well. It is important to know that you can do your pages however you feel. This is
07:41another reason why the book is important. It's because sometimes you want to be private in your
07:47vision. You don't want everybody to know your vision because everybody ain't in your corner. Everybody
07:53is not your friend. Everybody don't want to see your vision come to pass. So sometimes you want to
07:58keep it close to the vest. And so if you have it in a book, if someone walks into your house
08:03and they see your vision board hanging up, then they can see it. But if it's in your book and you
08:08put your book on your desk, they're not thumbing through your stuff. So you're able to keep it
08:12private when you have your essential vision Atlas. Let's do a page together. And the page we're going to
08:21work on together is work. Because work is about your career, your vocation, or your business.
08:28And so we're going to first at the top of the page, take whatever color marker you want. I like blue.
08:35And I'm going to just write up there work. Because I know that that is the focus of that page. And
08:44actually, I write it twice just for me. I just know that that is my focus for this page. And so
08:50as we think about work, and we think about women in the workplace, did you know that out of 100 men
08:58that have been elevated to a manager's position, 58% women have been elevated to that same position?
09:05Now, let me say what happens with women who are elevated. They are not paid at the same level
09:10that the men are. So yeah, they'll get the elevation, but they don't get the equal pay.
09:17And so I can remember for myself, when I was starting to speak, and I was going on the speaking
09:23circuit, and I was thinking about how much to charge. And then I remember I was going to speak
09:27at an event. And I quoted as a keynote speaker at that time, blasphemy, I'm going to say it out loud,
09:33$1,700 to be a keynote speaker. And I was excited about it. And then I learned later that another
09:39keynote speaker, male, white male, had charged $7,000. And he got $7,000. I didn't even know
09:49that I could charge that much. Because oftentimes, as women, we don't have the same resources, we don't
09:55have the same support in getting these positions and doing well in these positions and being paid
10:02fairly. So one of the things that I want on my work page is that I want to be an A-lister. I want to be
10:11the A-lister who gets invited to the speaking circuit. I want to be invited to the fundraising events
10:19that's going to allow me to network appropriately. And because I want that manifested, I am putting
10:26that with my glue right in my book. Here we go. I want to be an A-lister. I've already cut out some
10:36things that I'm going to also share. Then I also want, this is good, because I want to manifest some
10:45things in my career. So the things that I want to manifest, let me quickly cut the word manifest out.
10:56You know, we have these words. And sometimes you can write them. Sometimes you can
11:00cut them out. But sometimes when they're cut out, they just look better because, you know,
11:04they're printed. And it's really nice aesthetically to look at. And of course, you want to make sure
11:10you have your glue stick. So I want to manifest. And this may even sound crazy, what I want to manifest.
11:18But I want to manifest being off the beaten path. What does that mean? I want to do things.
11:26That have never been done before. I want to do things that there really may not even be an
11:30example for because it's off the beaten path. I like trying new things. And even when I'm trying
11:36the new things, I want to make sure that I am being a light and a vessel to show other people
11:42how to do it. So if I'm off the beaten path, I want some other women to come along with me because,
11:48you know, one of the things that we hear about women is that we don't know how to work together.
11:53That we are always having drama. If you're looking at most of these reality shows, sometimes they do
11:59seem to manifest that. But I believe that women absolutely can support each other. Look at the
12:05fact that we have these black women who have done excellent in the political arena this year.
12:11And yes, yes, yes, it's because they are supporting each other. It is important to know
12:17that sometimes the people around us don't see us elevated. So we have to be very careful who we
12:24share our vision with, who we share what we do and what we want to do with. Because have you ever told
12:31someone what you want to do? And then they'll go, nobody ever done that. I don't know anyone who has
12:36done that. Yeah. Because every single person who's ever done anything had a first day. Take your first
12:43day. Know that you can do it. If you've thought it, you can do it. And you might not have all the
12:49resources. You may not know exactly what to do or how to do. But if you keep moving, if you keep
12:54writing the vision, thinking about yourself doing it, seeing yourself making it happen, it will come to
13:01pass. And so another thing that I want in my work page is I want to have a journey. I want it to be
13:10like an adventure. I want my business to feel like an adventure. I want people to call me from all over
13:19the world that I've never seen or I've never contacted with. And now I'm learning from them
13:24and I'm using my gifts and my talents to support them. And so I absolutely think as Black women, we have
13:32to think higher, think bigger. But did you know that right now, the number one group that of new
13:40entrepreneurs in this country are Black women? Black women are soaring with starting businesses and
13:47they're starting all different types of businesses, whether it be doing body butters, lashes, beauty
13:55things, clothing lines. They're just exploding and cooking. Oh my goodness. They are doing all kinds of
14:03things. But it starts with a vision. And so you have the vision in you already to do exactly what
14:11you were put on the planet to do. So even if you don't know what it is that you're supposed to be
14:16doing, even after you're doing your boards and you're thinking about your pages in your book and
14:20you go, I really don't know what my purpose is. I really don't know what my dream is. So let me tell
14:25you something. Tap into the thing that is easy for you to do. Because the thing that's easy for you to do
14:32is your gift. That's why it's easy for you to do it. But too often, we don't value the gift. And so
14:40we put it to the side. We think that something has to be hard in order for it to be successful.
14:48No, no, no. The thing that you are gifted at should come easy for you. So you can discover it.
14:55Yeah, you need to spend some time developing it. But then you got to get busy delivering it.
15:03So in this Vision Atlas on your work page, you want to think about what do you want your career to be?
15:10What do you want your business to be? Do you want to do something that's vocational? And then what does
15:15that look like for you? It has to be important to you. Too often, we tap into things that we think
15:22other people feel are important. Did you know that it is a fact that the largest growing
15:27population right now on the planet is over 50? Over 50. There's going to be a person that lives
15:35to be 150, and they've already been born. So we have to understand that if you're over 50,
15:42that doesn't mean that you are out of the game, that you stop dreaming, that you stop visioning.
15:46Actually, what we know, and there was a study that talked about how the most productive time in our
15:53lives is between 60 and 70. Do you believe it? Between 60 and 70. And because of that, don't get
16:02locked into, oh, I'm too old. I'm being laid out to pasture. No, no, no. Your wisdom that you have now
16:09is that you can really impact the world because you know something that you didn't know when you
16:14were 30 or 20 and you were starting in the game. Use everything that you have. And so one of the
16:20things that I want in my business is I want to have belief in my skills. I want to believe it.
16:27And because if I believe it, then I will show up in that area of belief. It is so important that you
16:34believe what you do. You believe how awesome you are at what you do. Because if you don't believe
16:39you're awesome, other people won't see it. But then don't be that type of person who
16:43everybody else sees your goodness and you don't see your goodness. So valuing the things that make
16:50you unique. You know, God knew what he was doing by making us all different. Yeah, other people can
16:55be speakers, but they cannot be Dr. Sabrina. Only I could be that. And once I'm gone, that space is gone.
17:03There will be someone else to speak. And oh, I help other people speak, but I understand my
17:08uniqueness. We are uniquely crafted to do the things that we do like no other. And so let me
17:14put this on my sheet because I think that sometimes it's important to write what it is that you want.
17:20What are the things that you see that you want for your business or your career in 2020? So right
17:28in the middle of my page, I'm going to put 2021. I'm not going to tell y'all what I'm writing. I'm not
17:35selling because it's my vision, but it's my vision. I'm writing it down. People here can
17:41see TV. I said TV. So that's all I'm saying. And so I believe that just because I have written
17:50it and I've put it down on paper, I've put it on paper, that it is going to manifest for
17:55me. I believe that. And because my belief is there, I want to do something that's off the
18:00beaten path. I want to be a A-lister. I also want to be iconic at what I do. Because you think about
18:08some people when they've touched the world, I want to have the type of light, the light of me,
18:14the light of Dr. Sabrina that I impact and influence and encourage, inspire, uplift other women and men
18:22around the world that I never get to see, that I never see them. So I understand that it's not about
18:28me seeing it. It's about me being used up when I leave here. You know, Bill Withers said, just use
18:36me till you use me up. That's what I say to God. Use me till you use me up. And in our career,
18:42in our business, in our vocation, we need to make sure, ladies, that we are bringing our A-game
18:49to every game. And sometimes, as Black women, statistics show that Black women just generally
18:56feel like in the workplace, in the corporate setting, they are marginalized. They are not
19:05valued. They are seen as sometimes if they are a go-getter or they're going to speak their truth,
19:11then they're mean and they're difficult to deal with. No. You can stand in your truth because there
19:18is a difference between being aggressive and assertive. And being assertive, you have your
19:23right to speak your truth. That way, people don't run over you because oftentimes they will. So we have
19:30to make sure that as we are doing our vision in all the different areas, that we are elevating our
19:36thinking to thinking bigger, thinking huger, believing bigger. And don't get stuck in the fact that you
19:43fail. We all have. But failure does not mean that you don't do it again because it can't paralyze you.
19:52Failure just means if you change your thinking, that is a life lesson. Uh-huh, that's a lesson learned.
19:59I know not to do it that way again, but I absolutely can do it again. So with this particular opportunity,
20:06I want you to think and dream big. Dream and think in full color. Uh-huh, yeah, full color. And use all
20:15your senses when you're dreaming and thinking. Think about how it's going to feel, how it's going to
20:20sound, what it's going to look like, what things may you taste, and what things will you smell when
20:26you're in that environment. So if you are thinking about starting a new business, and you think about
20:31that the fact that it's going to be a brick and mortar business, think about what it'll feel like
20:36taking the key, opening up the door to your suite, going and walking through, picking out the furniture,
20:43picking out the wall decorations, having the grand opening, and what food you may serve for the grand
20:50opening. All that makes the vision real. Put it in the book. And I will say this, I have been doing
20:59these books for years, probably since my son was a teenager. He's 27 now. But ever since then,
21:07I am always amazed at how quickly things will come to pass if I take the time to write them down or to
21:15put the picture of it. And then I, like I said, I'm not a person that draws, but I remember the first
21:22time I bought my first house. I put it in my book. I rolled past the house, and I took a picture of the
21:28house that I wanted, and I put it in the book. And then the next page, I took a marker, and I drew the
21:35house just in my hands, and I put a picture of myself sitting on the porch. Within two months of
21:43me doing that, I signed the closing papers for that house. So I am truly a believer in visioning,
21:52seeing it in your mind's eye, putting it down on paper, and then writing the date that it
21:57happens once it manifests. I guarantee you, it works, and it'll work for you. So I want to thank
22:04you so much again to Essence for allowing me to be a part of the East Week 2021 career visioning
22:11exercise. You can find me on my website, sabrinajackson.com, or on the gram. Yes, I'm on
22:19Instagram, Dr. Sabrina Sphinx, and you can go and purchase your Essential Vision Atlas on my book

22:37for you. I want to hear from you, and I will see you next time.
