Transcript
00:00But from here, I think we can go ahead and transition into our Q&A session. Ladies, I'd like to give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have regarding your coming pitch and how you're feeling and what areas you should be covering, if there's anything that you had in mind that I didn't already discuss.
00:19So I actually have a question in regards to public speaking. I tend to get really nervous and I freeze a lot. So I guess my question would be, how do you stop yourself from freezing when you're giving a pitch?
00:33Honestly, freezing can be used really strategically if you do it in the right way. So if you feel yourself needing to take a breath, take that breath, but time it.
00:42Like find a way to where you're able to acknowledge, OK, I feel myself running out of breath a little bit. Where can I take a pause for emphasis?
00:51You can pause to be able to highlight a particular part of your presentation or if you find yourself getting nervous and you feel like, oh, I'm not expecting this pause, but I need to take it. Just take it.
01:02A lot of the time that pause will not even be noticeable to your audience, but you want to make sure that you're in a position where you're actually able to feel as prepared and ready to move into the next transition.
01:14I think using pausing for transitions is extremely important because it takes it allows your audience to have a moment to digest the information that you're giving them.
01:24And they'll probably be just as happy that you're taking a pause as you are. So don't be afraid to lean into pausing as a form of strengthening your public speaking.
01:32I'm actually the complete opposite. Like I can't stop talking. So is there any tips that you have for like narrowing down my points and sort of just making sure that is a great question, because that is an opportunity for you to engage with your audience as well.
01:49When you find yourself considering, oh, am I starting to over talk? Ask your audience a question, give them the opportunity to talk to you.
01:58And then that way you can use that as a way to guide your conversation with them and be able to say, hey, I want to know what you're thinking right now.
02:06I've shared my thoughts and now I get to hear back from you.
02:09And you can use that as a way of guiding the conversation, figuring out what you should focus on next.
