00:00I really feel that women, we are multifaceted. There's so many different levels to who we are
00:06as people. And why should we just stop at one thing? I feel like just because you are a mom
00:14and doesn't necessarily mean that you have to give up on all of your dreams and your aspirations
00:18that you have in life. So, you know, that's definitely where it comes from. I'm inspired
00:23by my own personal life. I'm a foodie. I love to cook. A lot of people don't know this,
00:29but once Sister's Sister was over, I was in college at the time at Pepperdine University
00:35and I said, you know what, if I don't end up booking anything, I'm going to go to culinary
00:39school. Food has definitely, yeah, food has always been a passion of mine. I ended up booking
00:44the game.
00:48You look so good.
00:50And I have to say, y'all tried me. Y'all really tried me because I'm trying to get
00:54my life together. I'm trying to do the snapback thing. And y'all need those 11 bakery cookies.
01:01Hey, man, I have my cookies right here. You know, you have to indulge. You have to enjoy
01:06yourself. I know I do. You know, Monday through Friday, do you, but on the weekend, have some
01:12fun. Indulge. It's okay.
01:16You're right. You're right. You're right. But I'm so excited to talk to you.
01:19Yeah. One, because I'm a huge fan and also because I'm lactose intolerant myself.
01:26I feel like, I feel like a lot of people are, you know, so it's nice that we're talking about
01:31it because you don't have to suffer, you know, you don't have to suffer. I know, you know,
01:37for me, um, I realized I was lactose intolerant when I was in high school going into college,
01:44you know, and especially in high school, you know, you're going to a lot of parties with cake
01:49and ice cream, you know, and then cookies and milk is like my favorite thing. And then once I realized
01:54that I was lactose intolerant, I was like, man, um, but I am the, you know, type of person where I just
02:02do not like the word. I can't, I can't have. So I'm so grateful for lactate, um, because you can enjoy
02:11the benefits that real milk has to offer you. Like the creaminess, the texture, like I can't
02:16just have cookies without milk. Like I have to have milk. It's just a tradition of mine and even
02:21in my household. So I'm glad that lactate is 100% real milk, just without the lactose. And I like to
02:28say it's 100% real milk, just without the stomach discomfort. So you don't have to suffer.
02:33Yes. They make ice cream and everything too. So everything, they even have the pills. I've had
02:39the pills too. Oh, great. Yeah. Um, but you know, as somebody who's lactose intolerant, you're in the
02:49industry. Um, and like you said, you, Hey, indulge every now and then for car during the week, the
02:55weekends turn up, but when you're on set, you're working on your show, you're working on different
02:59projects when there are these tables full of these goodies that, you know, might have things that
03:04tear your belly up. How do you kind of deal with that? How do you go about, you know, dealing with
03:10these craft tables and like looking out for yourself, you know, when you're. Yes. You, you know, I,
03:16I love food, right. I'm a foodie. I live for food. Um, I love dairy. I love those, you know,
03:24like you said, I love all of the things that the set has to offer, but at the same time,
03:30you know, I feel like it's, it's, you know, for me just, you know, staying healthy, um, making that
03:38a priority, um, putting myself and my needs, um, as a priority, it's important, you know, and once
03:46you have that perspective and you say, it's important, I am worth it. I am worth, you know,
03:52feeling great and feeling good throughout the day. Um, then you, you know, are able to make,
03:59make better choices and better decisions for yourself. Um, and that's one thing that we have,
04:04even as a family and myself has, has adjusted to doing is, you know, we've adjusted to, um,
04:10having lactate, um, milk, like I said, it's a hundred percent real milk, just minus lactose. And,
04:16you know, I'll even pack my smoothies. Um, whenever I, I, you know, go to work, I,
04:22carry a lot of my own, um, you know, food, because again, for me, it's about feeling good.
04:30It's about feeling great. And if you don't take care of you, and if you don't feel great,
04:35then how can you tackle on the day? I don't want to tackle on the day, you know, with some sort of
04:40stomach discomfort. Um, so I will make my smoothie with my fruits, my veggies, um, and you know,
04:48my lactate and I'm ready to go. So then when all of those distractions, should I say are in front of
04:56me, I have what I need. And that kind of goes into my next question, which was how does, you know,
05:01you're like, you know, your lactose sensitivity impact the way that you cook and bake and do things
05:06in your own home? Okay. Well, yeah, I, I am not the only one with a lactose sensitivity. My whole
05:15family is, um, and with that said, I'm, you know, uh, putting all of us, um, um, you know, making sure
05:26that we're making the right choices. And like I said, you know, we've adjusted to using lactate in
05:31the house. So whenever I'm making smoothies for the family, for myself, for my daughter, um, for my
05:37son, um, I'm able to use, you know, lactate or whenever I'm baking cookies, use lactate. Um, also
05:44one of my favorite dishes that we're making right now for the family, um, is my overnight oats
05:51featuring Elmo. We're a huge fan of Sesame Street. Oh my gosh. I've been a huge fan of Sesame Street.
05:57And so to carry on that tradition is just so amazing and so rewarding. Um, and my overnight
06:03oats featuring Elmo, I use lactate with that. So my point is, is that I don't like the word I can't,
06:10I can't have. And so I've been able to make adjustments so I can enjoy, um, you know, making
06:17the overnight oats for my children without them having any sort of stomach, stomach discomfort,
06:22including myself. I can have, you know, the ice cream, um, on a hot summer day. I can have the
06:28cookies and milk, which has been a tradition of mine ever since, you know, I was in the kitchen.
06:34Um, so it's just making those proper adjustments. Nice. Nice. And as someone who loves to cook,
06:40I wanted to ask you about your upcoming, uh, cookbook that you have on the line and you know
06:45what that means for you, because you're, you're, you're someone, you have your YouTube channel,
06:49you have a lot of, you have your cookbook coming and you're somebody we know as an actress,
06:53but you've found yourself having success in multiple realms that has to do with lifestyle
06:57and family and food. And that's just a really big deal. So can you kind of speak to one,
07:03your cookbook, and then also just not feeling like you have to be stuck in one box because you have
07:08yes. Yes. So I'm so excited about this cookbook. This has been a labor of love. I have been working
07:16on these recipes for such a long time. You know, my whole thing is I just want to inspire people to
07:23get into the kitchen, to not feel overwhelmed about putting, you know, great, healthy, quick,
07:28uh, meals on the table for their families to enjoy. I know for me, that was a place where I could,
07:36meaning at the dinner table, I could, um, you know, talk about my child and see how was your day?
07:42How are you feeling today? Um, it's a, it's a great way to create memories, um, to bond with
07:48your family. So I want to inspire everyone to do that. And so, you know, this cookbook is a labor of
07:54love and it's a part of that inspiration. And I hope everybody, you know, enjoys this book as much
07:59as I did, um, um, making it, but it's also not just a cookbook, meaning I am helping you organize
08:06your kitchen. Um, I'm helping you, you know, get started in the kitchen. I help you organize your
08:13pantry. What are the things that you need in your pantry? What are the things that you need,
08:16you know, in your refrigerator? Um, so that's the cookbook in regards to, you know, not being kind
08:24of stuck in this one lane. I really feel that women, we are multifaceted. There's so many different
08:30levels to who we are as people. Um, and why should we just stop, um, at one thing? I feel like just
08:39because you are a mom and doesn't necessarily mean that you have to give up on all of your dreams and
08:43your aspirations that you have in life. Um, so, you know, that's definitely where, where it comes
08:48from. I'm inspired by my own personal life. Um, I'm a foodie. I love to cook. Um, a lot of people
08:55don't know this, but once sister, sister was over, um, I was in college at the time at Pepperdine
09:01University. And I said, you know what, if I don't end up booking anything, I'm going to go to culinary
09:05school. Food has definitely, yeah. Food has always been a passion of mine. I ended up booking the game.
09:12Um, but again, my thing is, is like, you don't have to be this famous chef to get great, you know,
09:19easy, practical meals on the table for your family. Um, so, you know, just by, through example, I'm
09:26hoping that I can inspire other people to do, you know, to do the same. And do you think you would
09:32ever like, if at some point you were like, I think I've had enough of acting. I want to actually like
09:37see you through this, you know, this passion that I had of going to school. Do you see yourself doing that?
09:44No, you know what? I really do believe, I mean, I, I find that I am a, I'm a multitasker, right? And I,
09:51and I enjoy being a multitasker. So just the way my brain is, is made up, should I say? I love using
10:00that creative side, that creativity of just being an actor, right? And, and I also love being a foodie
10:08and, uh, you know, uh, doing recipes and cooking and doing Tia Moritz quick fix. So I think I will
10:14always, always be doing both, you know, um, even like an entrepreneur, like it's just who I am as a
10:22person. Like I said, I said, I feel like, you know, we, as women were just so multifaceted and if you
10:27have more than one passion, then go for it. Like you don't have to just do one thing. Um, I feel just
10:35so grateful that I'm able to be given the opportunity to, to do what I love to do. Um,
10:42but again, it all comes from just inspiring and encouraging, um, you know, and making people laugh
10:48and, you know, have a great time. Yeah. Nice. And it's a great message to send also, you know,
10:53as a mom, you know, to your own daughter, like as, you know, leading the path, showing the way,
10:57like you don't have to do just one thing. You can do whatever you want. No. And you know,
11:02my, my mom, she used to always say, don't put all of your eggs in one basket. You know what I mean?
11:07And I think that's why I feel so fulfilled and I feel so fulfilled because I'm doing what I love to
11:14do. I love to cook and I love to act. Who says that I have to just do one?
11:20Nice. Yeah. Nice. And I do want to ask you, speaking of your daughter, I have to ask how,
11:26I must know how you guys set up these play dates. Your daughter, Kyra, with Kavya,
11:32with Gabrielle Union's daughter, Kavya, because it's the cutest thing. And they literally just have
11:38the time of their life. And I just have, Oh no, they love these, these two girls, they love each
11:46other. They are like two, you know, what is it? Two peas in a pot. Yes. They are just, it all,
11:55it all started on Instagram, you know, because people would say they would call Kyra and, you
12:03know, Gabrielle, you know, Kavya, her daughter, shady baby, because, you know, they're both just
12:09like, they just like to keep it real, you know? And then, and then, and then Gabrielle was like,
12:15girl, we got to get these kids together. And I was like, yeah, let's do it. And we finally got
12:20them together and they hit it off more than we ever thought that they would. It's, it is crazy.
12:26They go to soccer practice together. Like they're just so good. They, they love each other. This
12:32always hugs. I've never seen Kyra smile and laugh so hard. And, and you know, it's so funny. I even
12:37send little snippets to Gabrielle all the time. Kyra will go by the door in the house and she go,
12:42go see Kavya, go see Kavya. Like she does this like almost every single day. I'm like, Kyro,
12:49we're not going to see Kavya today. It is okay. But that's her girl friend.
12:56Yes. I love that. Oh, the little tidbits, the little videos that you guys have shared.
13:02Yeah. We, you know what, you know, we call it, we call it black girl magic. We really do.
13:07Like Gabrielle and I, it's like, cause just seeing them together, it's so magical, but not only that,
13:13again, I always see, you know, how we can inspire each other and even Kavya, she's a great swimmer.
13:20And Kyra was so scared about going underwater. And so Gabrielle was like, invite, she invited us,
13:26let's, let's go, you know, um, let her come to one of Kavya's swim classes. And I was like,
13:30girl, okay. You know, her dad, you know, he gets so nervous with her, you know, you know,
13:35swimming and all that. And we all were together with the kids and she saw Kavya go up on the water.
13:41And then Kyra was like, and she went up under the water and she's just like, you know, she's not
13:47afraid. And it's because of seeing that positive image with Kavya and it starts at a young age.
13:53It really does. That's amazing. I love that. I love that. Just a huge fan. So thanks for your time
13:58today. Yeah. I appreciate it. No problem. All right. Awesome. Bye.
14:05Bye.
