00:00Hello, everyone. Great to be with you today. My name is Cheryl Pegas, and I'm the EVP of
00:11Health and Wellness at Walmart. Today, I'm here to talk to you about loving your body.
00:17And I'm going to give three tips and three areas to focus on. For my first one, I'm going to talk
00:24about immunizations because immunizations do matter. It's really important for all of us to
00:31get the right immunizations. So we know about the flu vaccine. We know about shingles. And today,
00:38we talk a lot about the vaccine for COVID-19. It is really an important item for all of us that when
00:47it's our turn that we get the COVID-19 vaccine. Let's talk a little bit about this vaccine.
00:53There have been a number of large clinical studies done to ensure that it is safe and effective.
01:00And these have been done in populations of all ages, race and ethnicities, and genders. And the
01:08results are that these vaccines are over 95% effective, over 95% effective, which means that
01:19they work in preventing COVID-19 infections. And so I truly want to recommend that everyone gets these
01:28vaccines. These vaccines are given in two doses. There's a first dose. And for some, you come back
01:34and get it three weeks after and for some, after four weeks. I encourage everyone when it's your turn
01:42to get you a vaccine. I know for myself, I will be getting my vaccine when it's my turn.
01:49The second item that I want to talk about when we love our body is making sure that we're getting
01:54our bodies checked out in all of the areas that we need to. So all women should be having
02:00gynecological exams, pap smears. We should also check our blood pressure, our glucose, our cholesterol,
02:08make sure that we're looking at any risk factors for heart disease. And of course, taking care of our
02:16mental health. How do we manage stress, anxiety, depression? These are all important areas that
02:23we should get checked on. And we should be doing it on a regular basis. It's not do it once today
02:28and five years later. It's knowing your numbers and taking care of yourself. To do that, you also have
02:36to understand what are the different tests you should get at different age groups. So when you're
02:41over the age of 65, you should get a bone density check. For diabetes, your doctor may recommend that
02:48you get tested based on your risk factors. So just be aware that you've got to know your numbers to take
02:54care of yourself, to love the body that you're in. Women'shealth.gov is a resource site that can help
03:02you find information. We also will make sure we leave information in our resource guide.
03:08The third and last thing that I'd like to talk about is just getting prepared for taking care of
03:13yourself. We spend a lot of time sometimes finding the right hairdresser, finding the right manicurist.
03:20We should invest as much time in finding the right healthcare professional. Someone who listens to our
03:27questions. Someone who answers our questions that we understand. And yes, sometimes we doctors speak in
03:34words that not everyone can understand. It's okay to say, I need you to explain that again. We also want
03:40to find doctors who meet and match our cultural needs. It is okay to say, I'm looking for a physician
03:48who's African-American. I'm looking for a female physician. Those are really important criteria.
03:54There are many resources to help you find a physician who relates to you and makes you feel
04:00comfortable. And again, we will provide some of those resources for you. Thank you very much for
04:07letting me speak with you today. At Walmart, our focus is on making you feel as if you're receiving
04:14quality, equitable healthcare. At our over 4,700 stores, we have pharmacists. At some of our stores,
04:23we have eye specialists. We have clinicians. Our goal is to provide you with access in your community
04:30by people who work with us and in our stores, our associates who are from the community.
04:36We believe saving money so you can live better also means so you can live healthier and love
04:44and take care of the body you're in. Thank you.
