00:00There's one song in particular by a local here by the name of P.J. Morton and he wrote a song
00:27called let go and let God and that song has been such an inspiration to me simply because during the time when my wife was very very sick before she passed away I needed a song to encourage me and that song would be the one that I would drive on the road or I would be in the shower or I would be just anywhere and I would just sing those songs those words let go and let God have his way and even now that song is very very much encouraging to me.
00:54In the climate in which we live with all the layoffs and financial difficulties the economy things of that nature you know we need something that's going to lift us something that's going to keep us encouraged and inspiration music and gospel music is the type of music which speaks of good news and that's what we need to hear we need something that's going to give us strength to make it through the next day.
01:18I mean it's unbelievable I mean you get you get honored by so many different people and and to have Essence who has been around such a very very long time especially this particular festival to think enough of me to say that you know my contribution to to the music industry and even to the world is something to be honored I'm just grateful.
01:35You know it's an educational tool as well to really help to empower and to uplift you know the urban community and or anyone who desires to to receive information that can stretch them and I think that's what's so powerful about Essence and I applaud the chairperson I applaud you know the team editors I applaud all of those individuals who are trying to make sure and to ensure
01:56that you know the urban community is educated about things that are happening around our world.
