00:00Two months ago, we have meetings every Monday and then with the high school kids on Saturdays, and the kids were so down and they were so sad and some of them were crying.
00:11And it was after the George Floyd killing and they were just feeling very hopeless.
00:17And what they said to me over and over is that nothing is going to change if we did go out and vote or nothing's going to happen.
00:25It doesn't matter who's the president, the usual thing.
00:28And what I did is I figured out that I had to connect the dots for them and make it very personal.
00:32So we talked about voting at the local level and that, you know, you hire the mayor, you vote in the mayor and the mayor hires the police chief.
00:43And the judges and the district attorneys that your uncles and your brothers that you're talking about are in jail now, they go before these people and they decide their fate.
00:53And when I connected the dots for them and made it personal, they all were like, really?
00:59Because people don't think about voting at the local level.
01:02They only think about the president and the vice president and not about their own community.
01:06So we did a contest where they would sign up the most members in their community and their churches and their family to vote.
01:16And I think the highest number we've gotten is one one of our warriors has signed up 12 members of his family and friends.
01:24And that's powerful because those 12 other people, you know, it just goes on and on.
01:31Is there anything else you would like the Essence family to know about your vision and the things that you want to be true for our black communities?
01:38And for us as black women, before we we let you go, I just want a democracy and I want a government that represents all people and not just one one person.
01:51I want honesty. I want them to do something about the climate control.
01:57I mean, it's so many things that need to be fixed and that need to be worked on.
02:03That's not being worked on. That's been been it's been ignored.
02:07And I'm just looking forward to a government that really gives a you know what, you know, about everyone, not just a select group of people.
02:18That's why they don't give a you know what, you know what you need to do.
02:22Yes, ma'am. Yes.
02:24And I don't understand the people who are still saying, I don't know.
02:29I don't know. I mean, I don't like either candidate and I don't like this.
02:33I mean, do you want to be I mean, you know, you know, the drill.
