Beyonce’s Tina Knowles revealed her cancer diagnosis during an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings

00:00I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast.

00:03How hard is it to say that?

00:06I'm getting emotional because it was like, you know, I've always tried to take care of myself and I just,

00:13it was, I was in disbelief.

00:15The American Cancer Society recommends a mammogram every one to two years for women over the age of 55.

00:22But Knowles missed hers during the COVID pandemic and forgot to reschedule it until last year.

00:28That's when doctors found two tumors.

00:30One was benign.

00:31The other had stage one cancer.

00:34It was stage one, which I thought was the earliest stage.

00:37And then when I told my sister, she said, no, actually there's a zero.

00:40So if I had gone from my mammogram, I would have got it at the zero stage.

00:45Thank God it was still very small, hadn't spread.

00:49It was a very slow spreading cancer.

00:52Knowles had a lumpectomy to remove the cancer from her left breast.

00:56Take us to the day of the surgery.

00:58Your girls, all of them showed up for you.

01:00All of them showed up.

01:01In the hospital.

01:02Before the surgery.

01:02And what did they do?

01:03I was nervous.

01:05And so they started just joking with me.

01:07And Solange pulls up this video of this, this young trans woman.

01:12And she sang, I'm very jimmy or an intentional with my, and, and, and we're just laughing

01:20at it.

01:20I mean, we just kept people cute.

01:22And so she's showing me this and we just look at it right before the surgery.

01:26Right before the surgery.

01:26So I started laughing.

01:27I get out of my head and, and then they said, I said, you know, I'm just so happy that

01:32y'all

01:33are here.

01:33And I thought about the song, walk with me, which they used to sing all the time.

01:37And Michelle wasn't there, but Solange filled in Angie song and they sung, walk with me.

01:44And it's about God walking with you into something and protecting you.

01:49And that's what they, they sung that song.

01:52And I went in there feeling just like God has gotten me.
