Transcript
00:00Tina Knowles Lawson is one of the most inspirational women of our generation.
00:08And I'm not just saying that because she's my mother.
00:11I call her Mama T. I started Mama T.
00:15One of the most humble, gracious people beyond, beyond.
00:20I don't recall her passing a homeless person without reaching into her purse.
00:26Her spirit is just pure. It's real. It's raw. And she's a very giving person.
00:32You don't get that from a lot of people.
00:34When I think of her being an inspiration, I mean, she's inspired the world without even trying.
00:44Style is something that you either have or you haven't.
00:47Tina just got it. She just put some stuff together. We would all rhinestone.
00:53Oh, you need to wear this. It doesn't mean you can wear anything, baby.
00:56You can put a bag on. It's going to be just great. It's going to be great.
00:58But it all turned out so fly.
01:02After being rejected from every single fashion house, she turned her love for fashion into purpose.
01:08She designed all of Destiny's Child's original stage costumes herself.
01:12She definitely put a stamp in the fashion industry.
01:15Miss Tina wanted to bring, like, the whole feminine, glamorous, old Hollywood back.
01:20She wants every woman to look fabulous. She wants every woman to be confident.
01:25If she could, she'd make over the whole world. That's just the person that she is.
01:29One of my favorite things to do growing up was visit my mother's hair salon.
01:34It was the hottest spot for African-American women.
01:38I got to see these women transform and the impact my mother had on so many.
01:42And how life-changing these two hours of these women's lives were.
01:47I think really that's her gift. She makes people feel really good.
01:51And she makes people feel really empowered.
01:53One of the things that I really love and admire is her ability to celebrate our lineage.
02:01I think she did that so beautifully with House of Darion.
02:06By paying homage to her mother, who was a seamstress.
02:13Qualities are rooted deep and passed on.
02:17So take a little time to look someone in the eye to let them know that you see them.
02:23Can't be taught.
02:27Tina Knowles Lawson is more than just a fashion icon.
02:31She's also a well-respected philanthropist.
02:35Her passionate work with the Knowles Rowland Center for Youth,
02:39Miss Emile, the Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House,
02:43and Goodwill have impacted thousands of lives.
02:47Her purpose on this planet is to advance black lives.
02:53To achieve their highest self.
02:56Every moment of her day is in that pursuit.
03:01My whole life, seeing my mother give to any and everybody that need it,
03:06it really is who my mother is.
03:08My mother's been through a lot, survived a lot.
03:12And I feel like when people see my mother, they see themselves.
03:15They see their mother.
03:17She's everyone's mother.
03:18She's my leader and she's definitely my inspiration.
03:21And everything I strive to be.
