Cantu Global Stylist Maria Antoinette demonstrates how to make this protective style look sleek and chic.
Transcript
00:00Hey guys, I am Maria Antoinette and today I'm going to be telling you some great tips on how
00:12to keep your hair hydrated when you do your protective styles for this fall. I'm going to
00:15be using all Cantu products. Protective styles don't have to be limited to braids, sew-ins,
00:20extensions, or anything like that. You can just simply put your hair up and make sure your ends
00:25are tucked for it to be technically a protective style. But today I really want to stress the
00:30importance of using hydration while you're putting your hair up. So let's go ahead and
00:35get Nikki's hair into an extremely sleek and hydrated bun. Since we co-washed her hair,
00:41her hair is nice, soft, and hydrated, but we still want to make sure that we add in that extra
00:45moisture. Now with conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, a little goes a long way, okay? So you don't have
00:51to use a ton. And we're going to start on the ends of the hair. We're just going to do a
00:55scrunchie type motion into the hair. And then we're going to bring it in towards her root.
01:02All right, once I get that all blended into her hair, I'm seeing that there are still a few tangles
01:08in her hair. All we did was cleanse. We put her leave-in conditioner because we want her hair to
01:12be super hydrated. Now we're going to go ahead and break down these tangles. You guys, this Coil
01:17Calm Detangler from Cantu is a lifesaver. The slip in this stuff, I'm telling you, it's amazing. So I'm just
01:24going to miss this on her hair, and I'm just going to work that into her hair. I wish you guys
01:29could smell this. It's so... It's nice. The guys like it, too. All right, so now to secure it down
01:38and into place.
01:43Now that our ponytail is nice and secure, it's time to tackle the puff and get this into a nice,
01:48elegant bun. So I'm going to take my dim and brush for this part, and I'm going to try to brush out
01:53some of her texture, not all of it. The reason why we're doing a bun from curly hair is to celebrate
02:00the texture that she naturally has. So I'm just going to go ahead and brush this through.
02:07We're going to take this first piece, and we're going to wrap it in the front, very loose.
02:12And we're going to just pin that right into place.
02:14Now for the second piece, we're going to pull that towards the back.
02:23Same loose texture.
02:25All right, so as you can see, her bun is complete, but it's not finished just yet.
02:30We have everything super sleek, but in order to keep it that way, we are going to tie her hair
02:35down with a silk scarf. You can let that sit on your hair for about five minutes while you're
02:40running around the house, getting your keys, grabbing whatever you need. You can even ride
02:43with it on your way to work. Take it off right before you get there, and you're good to go
02:47for the day.
