00:00Tyler Perry has been receiving lots of criticism over his recent new drama for Too Close to
00:08Home. He casted a predominantly white actors in the series. Okay, so during an appearance
00:12on the Tom Jordan Morning Show, Perry said this to the fans.
00:16Norman Lear, all those people were writing for black people for years, for years, you
00:22know, and nobody asked them, well, what makes you think you could write for black people?
00:26Hell, stop asking me that damn question. People are people.
00:30Okay, people are people. Facebook has been buzzing with mixed reviews. Sam S. wrote,
00:35how many primarily black movies and TV shows has he done? He wants to show that he's capable
00:40of doing more and so far, so good. I'll be watching, get that money. So, panelists, what
00:45are your thoughts on this? Are we here for a whitewashed Medea, as they're calling it,
00:49or nah? Slade, Slade. Oh, we're on the fence, Charles. I'll let you start with this one for
00:55now. Slade, who are you slaying? I am slaying, uh, I'm slaying Tyler Perry because I feel
01:01like, uh, I'm not a fan of his work, and if he wants to embarrass white people for a change,
01:05he is, he can go right ahead. Let him set, let him set white people back a couple years
01:12for now. Give us a break from the Medeas and the Meet the Browns. Give, we need to heal
01:18as a people. Just give us some time to heal. So, I'm slating this. Go ahead, do your thing,
01:23Tyler Perry. Tina, your thoughts? You know what? For me, it's like, as a black creator,
01:28you should be giving these opportunities to black people. But also, like, let the man
01:32do what he gotta do. He gotta make his money. Absolutely. And what's, I mean, white people
01:36write movies about black people. Like, why can't we, like you said, people are people. I kind
01:41of agree. But also, it's like, you got a responsibility. Like, you know, you gotta get your brother a job.
01:45Okay, okay, fair enough. Seven, you're slaying it. You're slayed. I'm gonna say, I'm gonna say
01:49slave for Tyler. And I'm gonna say that because I feel like, as a creative being, he just wants
01:54to spread his wings a little bit. He's done a lot of movies, you know, that are, you know,
01:58have predominantly black cast. You know, whether or not you feel like, you know, people feel like
02:04they are, you know, they represent us in the right way or not. But he, if we're talking about just
02:09in terms of, you know, whether or not his cast is predominantly white or predominantly black,
02:12I'm gonna say slave because he's done a lot of them, the majority of them, truth be told,
02:17that have predominantly black cast. And he just wants to show us diversity. You know,
02:21do I think that he could do more movies with black cast that kind of, you know, show our,
02:27you know, represent us in a better light? You know, for, you know, I feel like he can do
02:32that a little bit better. Because, you know, we're not just the characters that we see in
02:36his movies. We're, you know, we're so much more. And I think that he knows that because
02:40he's so much more. You know what I mean? So I feel like we'll see that from him in the
02:44future. But I don't, I think it's okay that for this one movie out of all the movies he's
02:48done, that he has a cast that is predominantly white. And, you know, he's gonna be around
02:53for a minute. So let's see what he does next. Let him live. Let him live. I'm like,
02:57that was good. Thank you, Seven, for saving me, Carl.
02:59Kayla, why are you going to be kidding? You have a comment out there?
03:03Yes. People are definitely chiming in. They have a lot to say. Jasmine Johnson says,
03:07people are people, but he was checking for those black audiences when he was making the
03:12come up. So please. Armilla Jackson says, Tyler Perry has been a lot for people and for a lot
03:17and a lot for the black community. I say, let them and let him make his money.
03:22Make that money. And he's a billionaire. If you want to give me some of that billion dollars,
03:26I will be on Roots all night. I will be in Mississippi Burning on Broadway. I don't care.
03:33Whatever he wants to do. Okay.
