Dr. Hunt explains how it is a myth that cracking your knuckles causes cancer.
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Ashley Gooden.
00:04Does cracking your knuckles really cause arthritis?
00:07All right, Dr. Hunt.
00:09And I do this, oh my God.
00:11Yeah, I do that.
00:12That's pretty good.
00:13That was a lot.
00:14I like that.
00:15No, the short answer is no.
00:18So there's like, it's gas bubbles that when you crack your knuckles that you're hearing,
00:23or sometimes depending on just the articulation of the two joints.
00:27But there have been studies.
00:29One as recent as I think 2011 that looked at this for people who cracked their knuckles.
00:34And it turned out that people who cracked their knuckles were not any more likely to have
00:38arthritis in someone, the group that didn't.
00:41But you hear this all the time when you were younger.
00:45And I think it was a way to get people not to do it.
00:48But it turns out.
00:49They were more annoyed with the sound.
00:51It doesn't cause it at all.
