00:00What's up? I'm Lance Gross and a value that's important to me is balance. For me
00:04when I think of balance, I think of my career and also my family and it's all
00:09about what's important to you. I always like to put my family first and then my
00:15career so you got to have the balance.
00:19Who's y'all?
00:25MG! My guy. What's up, bro? What's up, man? Thank you for joining me for this. Coming to the studio, it's about time we got this together.
00:34So with this, I'm inviting people over to have a quick shoot and then we sitting on
00:39the couch shooting a breeze so it's very chill, you know what I mean? But with this, I
00:44assign everybody a value that's important to me. For you, you're a hard-working man,
00:49you got the family life so I chose balance for you. When you hear that word, what
00:55does that mean for you? When I hear balance, it's being able to have that level mind to
01:06be able to deal with all the different obstacles. Now what I mean by that is
01:10finding that time for yourself because what a lot of people don't understand
01:16is whoever doesn't have a family or whoever doesn't work in the industry, how
01:22much work and attention and energy they both need. I think when you take that time
01:28for yourself with a level mind, a level head, you know, you're able to make good
01:33choices, you're able to give the attention to the family and then in your career and
01:39you know, from every different angle, being able to kind of think through what's
01:42being asked of you, what you have to do. Balance starts with one's mind.
01:49Coach, what's a typical week for you? And with that, how do you keep your balance? Like
01:59what type of activities or things do you do to keep the balance when you're working?
02:06A typical, a typical work week for me, I mean 13, 14 hour days or more. And what people
02:17forget to realize or may not understand is that you're, you're not just learning lines,
02:25you know? You have to go and do interviews. You have to go to fittings. You have to go
02:31meet this person. Oh, but they think it's so easy. They think it's so easy. They think
02:35it's so easy. They think it's so easy, man. But you look good all the time. You're always
02:39smiling. Like, what do you mean? Like you, you were upset. Like I, every time I see you,
02:42you're smiling. It's like, well, when you're a public figure, you don't want to put out like
02:46that you're grumpy. It's like, nah, we deal with real life and we were human beings.
02:51Human things. With emotions. And so for me, especially you and I who both have daughters, it's like you are taking on another
03:00dynamic. And for me, like my oldest daughter, uh, Janai, who's handicapped, um, that changed my life.
03:09Yeah. Uh, and my, and my wife, my whole family dynamic got changed when we were, we were blessed
03:13with my daughter who has cerebral palsy. And you know, I, I'm off the set, but then I'm going home,
03:21making dinner and making sure my, my, my kids good and, and all that. So people don't tend to see that.
03:28They don't see us. They don't see me and my wife waking up in the middle of the night
03:32when my daughter has a seizure, you know, they don't see, you know, me, you know,
03:36my wife waking up where, where my, my baby's crying or my son has a stomach ache.
03:41We have to go to the hospital. Like that's real life. You see what I'm saying?
03:44So an individual who wants to be in this game, it's like, go for it.
03:49But understand that this industry, they don't care. They don't care.
03:54They don't care if your kid is sick. They don't care if like you had a, there was a storm
03:58and your house got messed up. Is he going to be on set?
04:00Yeah. Can he do this?
04:01Is he going to make his car?
04:02Right.
04:03Is he going to know his line? You know what I mean?
04:05And, and, and that's, that's the whole thing I need people to understand and recognize.
04:08When you go into this business, you're going into it and like, you almost become married to it.
04:12So you, you got to deal with that situation while you're in it to where it's just like, wow, it really is work.
04:18You know what I mean?
04:19It's not just, it's not just a balance of two things. It's like a balance of 10.
04:24Several, several, bro.
04:25You know what I mean? 10 to 20, bro.
04:26Several.
04:27Yeah.
04:28Earlier you, you mentioned you, you have a special needs daughter.
04:38Yes.
04:39What advice would you give a parent with a special needs child?
04:43Oh God. Um, I think having a, having a special needs child is a blessing.
04:52Um, and I, the advice that I, that I have that I would give to a special needs parent is, uh, just keep fighting.
05:04You see what I'm saying? Like, uh, it's, uh, as hard as it is, it's, it's, it's wonderful.
05:13You see what I'm saying?
05:14And she makes us better because the situation with my daughter and why she's a, is a blessing.
05:26Number one, she's my daughter, but like, she doesn't know hate.
05:30She could care less what color you are.
05:33She don't care or give a crap about who's in the presidency.
05:37She don't care if what you're driving, what you're wearing, how much money you have in the bank.
05:42She just loves you for you.
05:45And that's an energy you cannot fake.
05:50You can't buy it and learn it in school.
05:53And all of a sudden I'm not complaining about traffic.
05:58Does traffic suck? Absolutely.
06:00Want to know something?
06:01My daughter may not ever drive.
06:03In fact, she won't drive.
06:05Um, oh man, they didn't cook the quinoa right.
06:13She not complaining about what you're giving her.
06:15She can't eat most foods.
06:16And, you know, she makes you want to get up and get after your day.
06:22You dig?
06:23And she may not know you or whatever, but then she'll reach out to you and she'll hold your hand.
06:30And she loves music.
06:32And she's just happy.
06:33You see what I'm saying?
06:35But this girl can't walk or talk.
06:38She can't change herself.
06:40She can't feed herself.
06:41But she's happy.
06:42Bro, man.
06:44Just hearing you say that, that's like the greatest balance you can have.
06:50Because it allows you to check yourself and really enjoy the simple things through her.
06:56Because she's not tripping off traffic or anything like that.
07:00So it's, like I said, it's a balance in itself, man.
07:06My God, I appreciate you, man.
07:08Thanks for allowing me to turn my camera on.
07:11Yeah, dude.
07:14I'll see you next time.
