00:01The day I was elected presiding bishop,
00:04a man walked up to me in the hall and said,
00:06Now, don't you wear dangly earrings.
00:12It confronted his image of what was proper and appropriate.
00:16In your holy name we pray.
00:19Amen.
00:21The Bible says many things about women's roles.
00:30The reality is that everybody cherry picks.
00:33If we're faithful, we keep looking,
00:36and that ultimately might transform our view of the role of every human being.
00:41Brothers and sisters in Christ, greet the 26th presiding bishop.
00:51Women were first ordained in 1974 in an irregular event,
00:59and then the church voted in 1976 to permit and encourage women to be ordained.
01:05I think it was a real challenge for women.
01:08I've heard horror stories about some of them being bitten,
01:12being spat on, called every name in the book.
01:16Conflict is a sign of possibility.
01:20It's not just negative.
01:22And many, many people see it as something to be avoided.
01:26But we can't grow, we can't change without conflict.
01:30The recent decision of the Church of England
01:33to finally open the doors for women bishops has brought great rejoicing.
01:38It has also brought reflections about what else,
01:43what should bishops wear.
01:46What I hear from others is that seeing a woman in this particular role expands people's imaginations.
01:56The image of God is broader and more diverse than anything any human being can imagine.
02:03And if we can't model the image of God in its diversity,
02:08we're not reading the Bible, I think, in its fullness.
02:13things like today.
02:14So in the Netherlands very well—
02:17as parents who proud as adults in the age of God,"
02:23beauty, phenomenal is nice》
02:25we gain the true criticism of the church of everyone.
02:26Yeah.
02:27Okay, way.
