00:13I grew up reading Essence, seeing the black women in Hollywood and feeling inspired and motivated by that and dreaming of one day being that.
00:24So to be recognized within a community that I do it for is so gratifying.
00:36Being a black woman in Hollywood is an interesting tightrope because I think in some ways the world of Hollywood is not necessarily conducive to us showing all the way out and being our most authentic selves.
00:50And sometimes it requires some sort of compartmentalizing or at least being very intentional with how you present yourself because you understand that this wasn't built for us.
01:02But at the same time entering those spaces and then finding the ways in which to be the most authentic is really rewarding and I think in that way it's such a beautiful privilege.
01:12My intention with my work and what I hope to do on screen and hope to continue doing is allowing kids to feel like it's okay for them to be themselves.
01:27Because so often we aren't afforded those representations and so my biggest hope in the world is a little black girl walks into a movie theater and is able to see herself on screen and because she sees herself doesn't feel like she has to make herself smaller.
01:46My intention is hopefully to curtail those internalized notions before they even have the opportunity to exist and it's the most rewarding thing in the world when that does happen.
01:59I just started writing a script that is exciting. I've written short films before and directed short films before and I love just all, you know, stages of the filmmaking process but I want to direct my own feature especially while I'm kind of in this interim of like finding what feels like the right next step for me because I don't necessarily just want to jump into something just to work.
02:28And like I'm very privileged that I don't have to do that at the moment. So I'd rather find really right material that I can do my best work with and really fully apply myself and work hard and, you know, dig deeper.
02:45So I'm waiting for that right opportunity to come however it does but in the meantime I'm working on writing scripts.
