00:00The flat brush and coconut oil and water and I have this intimate relationship.
00:05You can't tell me it's like the waves of the ocean, honey.
00:08It looks just like so great when I get it nice and tight.
00:20The first time I went natural, I went from being, you know, this southern little girl from Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
00:26went to Howard University and was completely inspired by this whole renaissance of arts and culture that was going on in D.C. at the time.
00:36So I just decided to not quite shave it, but cut it down to where you could see the skin.
00:43Then I just decided to go back again and permed it.
00:48I don't know why.
00:49And so from then until the last four, like three years ago, almost three and a half years ago,
00:58I decided that I was just tired of putting this permanent in my hair and not knowing what,
01:05I didn't even know what my real hair felt like.
01:07And so I just started growing it and I've just like cut the last of any straight hair off.
01:15But guess what? It's not the main moment that anybody would think because I don't know what to do with it.
01:21There are so many products and so many blogs and so much advice.
01:27And, you know, like this product works or that product or gel versus cream and what brings out the natural curl.
01:36And shrinkage is real.
01:37I'm just saying it is oh so real.
01:41I like keeping it in a way that I can, whatever activity I want to participate in,
01:49I'm not limited by the results of it on my hair.
01:54It's definitely, you know, a situation that requires a lot of commitment
02:01and a tremendous amount of participation.
02:06So I'm just learning more about it and figuring out just really how long I want to be bothered with it all.
02:13I think my main moment is just getting everything away from my face
02:19and loving my face and putting it out there and not being upstaged by any of it.
02:26Oh, who knows? Maybe I'm just being lazy and confused about what to do.
02:29My name is Lynn Whitfield and this is my main moment.
