00:00So what I took for financial wellness was just basically being comfortable, stability,
00:06be able to balance my financial situation, have control over that. And I think that's
00:12where financial wellness is, having control over it, making it work for you and you not work for it.
00:17I wound up getting mentors. So I got two of them. One of them, thank you, thank you.
00:22One of them that is in a business now and one of them that's not in the business that had a salon.
00:28So I get from her what not to do. And I get from the other one what to do.
00:32You know, everybody has that step of feeling lost or questioning self.
00:36And sometimes you have to find somebody that can kind of guide you.
00:39So now those mentors I have, you know, it works out in a better way.
00:42Like I feel like a lot of us think that you're alone.
00:46And sometimes we feel like when somebody gets to a certain level,
00:50they, you know, they're doing so great, they don't have problems.
00:53But through the longer journey, you still do have problems, you still have issues.
00:57And it's good that you can learn from everybody.
00:59It's like a focus group.
01:01That really is one of my, I think like the biggest blessing that other black women entrepreneurs like give
01:08is that they're so generous with their time and their ideas.
01:11That we're willing to learn and to share, right?
01:14And so I think we're such a small community that I've always found that when I meet other women of color,
01:19that they're like, oh, you're not in my industry, but have you thought about this, this, and this?
01:23Yeah.
01:23And a lot of times like we don't hear about that.
01:25I love that you're honest about the fact that you run a family business.
01:28Yeah.
01:29My parents are invested.
01:30So it's just, you know, I want to take care of them.
01:32I understand the sacrifice they did for me and my brother.
01:35And that's your accountability partners.
01:36Yes.
01:37Well, one thing I would offer you to is, I mean, getting a financial advisor can be expensive.
01:43Yes.
01:44But to all of our point about, you know, utilizing your resources.
01:47Yes.
01:48Most state firm agents, right, can discuss insurance and financial services.
01:52And so we don't charge for that.
01:53So, right, and you could absolutely go into the state firm agency and say, I want to start to talk about investment.
01:57Let me tell you something.
01:58I just, through Victoria, got life insurance.
02:00I've never had it before.
02:02You know, I wish I would have did it way earlier, but it's never too late.
02:05You know, and when I started doing it, I was only putting it very minimal amount of money.
02:09Yeah.
02:09But, you know, 10 years later.
02:10So it all found interest.
02:11I mean, we all love what we do, right?
02:14Yeah.
02:15And so we're very committed to it.
02:16Yes.
02:16But certainly, I would imagine you'll want to get to a point where you can do some things other than just be in your salon every day.
02:22And so it really allows you to have that nest egg.
02:24Yeah.
02:25Where you know that as much as I love my business, there are things that I want to do personally.
02:30The way that I look at it is that you can put, I think it's like up to 25% of your, um,
02:34of your income in there.
02:36Okay.
02:37And so it, again, it's like set it and forget it.

02:40And because of the way that it's set up, it's like you're giving yourself a raise anyway.
02:43I want to be able to protect that business.
