Transcript
00:00Hey everybody, Janelle Snowden here with one of New Orleans' own Juvenile.
00:05How are you?
00:06Hey, I'm feeling good, man.
00:07So, you know, the Essence Festival is celebrating its 25th anniversary right in your backyard this summer.
00:12When you think about the Essence Festival and all that it does for your city, your community, what do you think about it?
00:18I just think about the empowerment of women.
00:20I mean, to have an event of that size and just so cultured and seeing my sisters come down and nothing ever happened.
00:2625 years, you know, it's a crime-free event and I think it's great for my city.
00:32And why do you think New Orleans is such a great host for it?
00:35Every year, everybody flocks.
00:36You have to have that on your calendar every summer.
00:38Right.
00:39You're playing yourself.
00:40It's the Big E's.
00:41No liquor laws.
00:42You know, you can really come down and enjoy yourself.
00:45You can walk from the super home to home back to your hotel.
00:48So, if you were to give folks a quick New Orleans survival guide for folks who are coming for the first time this year,
00:53what are the must-do things in your city?
00:56Uh, you know, go on Burma Street, try you some oysters.
01:01They got multiple spots to go to.
01:03Get you a hand grenade.
01:04A hand grenade?
01:05It's a drink.
01:06It's a drink that I think every tourist should try when it comes to this.
01:09Is that the thing that's the tall?
01:10Yeah, that's right.
01:11Okay, I thought that was called a hurricane.
01:12That's a hand grenade?
01:13No, the hurricane was before that.
01:14No, it's a hand grenade.
01:15The hand grenade is the new thing.
01:16I'm not hip.
01:17And come on down to my dog, Skip, got a restaurant called Chicken and Watermelon.
01:21I've been there.
01:22It's right next to Jazz Daiquiri.
01:23That's right.
01:24That's my spot.
01:25I'm about to feel that next.
01:26Come to Jazz Daiquiri.
01:27Get some daiquiris.
01:28And Skip will just open up a new spot downtown.
01:31Uptown or downtown, come over there because that's the spot in the city right now.
01:35That's where everybody goes.
01:36What is not to love about a place called Chicken and Watermelon where they have Obama Punch?
01:39They still have Obama Punch on the menu?
01:40Obama Punch.
01:41You know, they got some cool mixes in there, man.
01:44Right.
01:45And they got over a hundred flavors, man.
01:47Come on down and get it right.
01:48I love it.
01:49And then the lingo.
01:50It's the best place in the world.
01:51If you go in a bad mood, how can you leave when everywhere you go?
01:55Everybody's calling you.
01:56What are they calling you?
01:57We say worded, baby, love, you know.
02:00We got a few.
02:01Right now for us it's love.
02:02Love the thing.
02:03Oh.
02:04That's the remix.
02:05That's like the new thing.
02:06See, I'm not getting you schooling me on everything.
