00:00The era that I grew up in, which was the height of the civil rights movement, you just had this
00:12feeling of unlimited potential. I don't ever recall someone saying to me, you can't be that,
00:18you can't do that, you can't dream that. So I think I, I dreamt big. I went into the
00:25entertainment department of a very large law firm and our main client was Norman Lear and he was
00:32producing really groundbreaking television at the time. One of the early films that I was involved
00:38in was a movie stand and deliver. We made a very lucrative deal for filmmakers. It just launched
00:44my career for me in a very special way. She's been recognized, you know, as the entertainment
00:48lawyer of the year. That's a difficult thing to do for any lawyer, in particular for an African-American
00:54woman. People say, oh, you know, you're F. Gary Gray. You're the guy who did Italian job. You're the
00:58guy who did this and you did that and Australia Compton and all this stuff. And, you know, they
01:02don't know the strength and the power that's behind me. And I love all my representatives, but Nina,
01:07she's the first one I call. Nina will fight tooth and nail for you. She will fight strategically for
01:14you. She came home with me to Kenya last year and I shared her with my family and, and for her to be
01:21interested, eager, and ready to understand my cultural context is, is really something that I highly value
01:28because then I know that as she represents me, she has a full understanding of who I am and where I'm from.
01:34When I was making the transition from being a publicist to being a filmmaker, I was hearing a lot of people say,
01:39don't put your own money into your movies. But no one wanted to give me money for my black women movies. And Nina was the
01:45first person to say, besides my mom, you could spend your own money and you can do it your way.
01:49The one thing that warmed my heart and really moved me about Nina is she's a representative who
01:55believes in the dreams of her artists.
01:57and be honest.
02:09The one thing that I was interested in is that I'm not sure, but I'll see you next time so far.
02:09I'll see you next time.
02:10This is almost as if you knew me after I was working with the dreams,
02:11but I'll see you next time recently.
02:13I'll see you next time soon.
02:14And I'll see you next time.
02:15We'll see you next time.
02:16Bye.
02:17Bye.
02:18Bye.
02:18Bye.
02:19Bye.
02:20Bye.
02:21Bye.
02:22Bye.
02:23Bye.
02:23Bye.
02:24Bye.
02:25Bye.
02:25Bye.
02:26Bye.
