00:00ladies the hairline or what we call the edges is a big issue for black women yeah we received
00:09quite a few questions about this and one woman even emailed us and said that the losing of her
00:13edges was affecting her self-esteem so I'm gonna start with you Tippi do you have any tips on the
00:18on edges absolutely so it's a huge thing and first let me just say that a person can tend
00:24to lose their edges just naturally through courses of alopecia through age after I had my daughter my
00:31edges got a little thinner in my temple area so that's one thing just naturally that happens over
00:36time and that's really nothing that you can do about it but then there are the self-inflicted
00:40edge problems like braiding hair too tight putting a lot of heat you know heat abuse comb abuse scarves
00:49anything that's kind of just resting too tight and I think the biggest problem is that when we tend to
00:54wear maybe like extensions or we're kind of just maybe relaxing the edges or just putting heat
00:58and just on those edges obviously causing self-inflicted chemical damage there too so edges are a huge
01:05problem one thing that we can do obviously is not creating a lot of stress so if you have things that
01:11maybe you're putting too much heat or just too much alcohol type of product just you know kind of back
01:16up on it a little bit just back up on it and also maybe wearing styles that don't require so much
01:21product on your edge where you need to kind of like smooth it out or flatten it out you know
01:25styles that require like tons of heat on your edges as well and Ghazi what are your thoughts on edges in
01:30terms of growing them back because many have already done the damage if you will yeah absolutely I think
01:35a big thing is it's all about follicle stimulation and so whether it's giving yourself scalp massages
01:41or using certain stimulating oils such as peppermint oil or cinnamon oil and there's certain things that
01:46also have certain herbal extracts that you almost feel like the tingle as it's on your edges a lot
01:51of times what I do with some of my clients is like literally spend like 15-20 minutes just massaging in
01:57those oils and if you're able to do that consistently because consistency is key with everything especially
02:02when it comes to hair growth people expect results overnight and if they can consistently do that
02:08whether it's twice a day or at least once a day they'll definitely see as long as there's no
02:12follicle damage they'll be able to see a change and Ellen what are your thoughts my my thoughts
02:17when it comes to the follicles like her if there's no damage then you're in good shape tippy definitely
02:24everything she says but um those that do have the follicles that have damaged you can go to your
02:30dermatologist okay and they do have foams and creams that you can use which have steroids in them but it
02:35won't make you grow hair all over it will not make you gain weight or anything but you can also get
02:40steroid injections which goes underneath the skin and what the steroid injections do is they dissolve
02:46the scar tissue to make it softer so that the hair can come through the scalp because what happens
02:51the scar tissue actually seals over your hair follicle so the steroids will actually break down that that
02:58scar tissue lots and lots of tips here and honestly one quick tip I will add that is something so simple
03:03it doesn't help grow but at least it's something that I do in between to camouflage okay breakage on the
03:10edges literally pouring like keratin fibers on your edges just to fill it in huge fan it's amazing
03:16like amazing and you can also use it you know and for those people that can't get that you know what
03:21I tell them you get a matte black or dark brown eyeshadow tap it in with a brush yeah and you're
03:27good I do because I get stressed alopecia I have a little spot that's a whole nother show okay
03:31all right we'll talk about that later I'm bringing it in I'm bringing it in
