Our #SlayedorShade panel weighs in on slain boy's mother using GoFundMe money for a car.
Transcript
00:00Carla Lee, the mother of Tyshawn Lee, the nine-year-old Chicago boy who was lured into an alley and fatally shot, is being accused of spending money donated through a GoFundMe account.
00:12The money was intended for funeral expenses, but she used it on a new car.
00:17Carla took to her Instagram page to defend herself in a series of videos which have since been deleted.
00:22There have been conflicting reports. Initially, some said she used all of the money to purchase the new car.
00:27Then there were some reports that she used her own money for the car's down payment.
00:31Okay, so, what are your thoughts on the count of three? Slade or Shade?
00:36One, two, three, yep. Shade, Shade, Slade.
00:39Slade!
00:41Carrie, I'm gonna come to you first, my love.
00:43Carrie, what are you... I know you're in shock with this one.
00:47Well, at first, I was kind of like, well, what kind of car did she buy?
00:50You know what I mean? I had to look, I'm not gonna lie, I clicked the link, I saw it was a 2015-something, I said she's dead wrong.
00:56It'd be one thing if she just got herself a little hoopty, a little consolation hoopty, you know what I'm saying?
01:00A my condolence Chevrolet, that would be something different.
01:04But you know, I just think, I think the timing is off.
01:06I think you look like you took advantage of people.
01:08You talk about you wanting to bury your child, but you out here riding it, riding around and getting it.
01:12So I just think that, you know, maybe, maybe she, I saw the clip, she was like, I need a car for my protection.
01:18Girl, cars ain't bulletproof.
01:19So I don't know if she knows of any bulletproof cars, but so she shady for that.
01:24Okay.
01:25Alright, Tracy.
01:26I completely concur because when you're doing crowdfunding, you have to be so transparent with where that money is gonna be funneled towards.
01:34And you're over here just like pulling on our freaking tear strings, trying to increase our sympathy for you.
01:40I'm thinking this is gonna be going to some type of memorial.
01:43Something for this little boy.
01:44To represent your son.
01:45And this is just going to your own self-gratification.
01:48So, Naboo.
01:49And I wonder where she's riding to.
01:50She said it's her safety.
01:51I think she's still sitting in the same city.
01:53Yes, right up in Chicago.
01:54She's not that scared.
01:55Right.
01:56She said, my son would have wanted me to have it.
01:58I don't think that's how it works.
01:59I don't think your son would have wanted you to have maybe a toy car for yourself.
02:04Okay, and Shawn, can you get the final word on this?
02:06Because you slayed?
02:07Okay.
02:08Let's talk about it.
02:09My only thing about crowdfunding, and I think that you're absolutely right.
02:12But if we read between the lines, she wanted to raise $10,000.
02:16Okay?
02:17She raised $17,500.
02:19Uh-huh.
02:20She did what she had to do for her son with the $10,000.
02:23What she needed to do with the other $7,500 is up to her.
02:27If you give a homeless person a dollar, you're giving them a dollar to decide what they want to do with it.
02:32You can't decide what they do with it.
02:33Not if they say, I need a dollar for food, and you give them a dollar for food, and their food is crap.
02:38No.
02:39But you gave them the dollar, so allow them to do what they want to do with it.
02:42That's my thought.
02:43I also hope she bought a car to get to work or to, like, maybe drive to some programs about gun violence.
02:48I don't know.
02:49Maybe she needs a car.
02:50What about creating a program?
02:51What we're going to do is make sure you get escorted, because I know there's some things that's going to have some comments on that.
02:56Well, my Kickstarter will be starting later today.
02:58I won't be donating!
03:00Send along money.
03:01So sorry.
03:02A penny is what you're getting from me.
