Nail artist Miss Pop shows us how to become a pro at bringing anemone nail art to life.
Transcript
00:00So today we're here with Miss Pop, a New York City manicurist who we work with often on our
00:09cover shoots, and she also does a lot of the runway shows backstage at Fashion Week.
00:14It's true. In fact, today I'm going to show you the look I did for the Rachel Antonoff show.
00:17We did these anemones, which are these beautiful flowers that I'm obsessed with. It was one of
00:25the prints in the collection, and one of the best parts about nail art is you can take the
00:28prints right off the collections and put them on your nails.
00:31Yes, and we're going to show you something that's easy for you to do at home, no matter
00:35what your skill level. So we've done one hand, and now we're going to show you how to do the
00:39second hand.
00:41First, I want to start out with a white. It's a really, really pigmented white polish. I'm
00:48going to turn the brush to the side. It's great and wide for stroking the nail, but when you're
00:51doing nail art, sometimes the side really helps. So I'm going to do one stroke of Alpine Snow
00:56nail up the center, and then one to the right and one to the left. So you're kind of giving
01:03it a twist on the half moon, except this time it's petals, so it's like half the flower.
01:07Yes, and who doesn't like flowers on your nails? So you're just going to repeat this for all
01:14of the nails? Yeah.
01:22If you get a little on your skin, just take a paintbrush, dip it in your nail polish remover
01:27or acetone, and you can just clean it right up and off the skin. So now that the white's
01:32down over the red, I can pick out each petal using a sheer color. Here I'm using OPI Passion,
01:39which is a great sheer nude. It's just going to give a thin veil of color that helps the
01:44anemones come to life. So I just go right over the same strokes, except this time I don't
01:50have to be so precise about it. So once you have your petals down, the next step is to do
01:59the center of the flowers, and I use a color called Blue My Mind. It's a sparkly blue that
02:04really brings out the dynamic center of the flower. So you just take a plastic dish or
02:09a palette, even a piece of tin foil will suffice, and dot out a little bit of the polish. Now
02:16you want to take a dotter with a good fall end. You can even use a bobby pin, dip it into
02:21the center of the polish, and then dip down into the center of your petals. Perfect. So then you want
02:36to use the other end of your dotter, which has a smaller tip, and create tiny little dots kind
02:41of in a half circle around the other circle. And this doesn't have to be perfect. In fact,
02:51the less perfectly round it is, the more natural it'll look. Now to connect those center dots to
02:58those little dots, I'm using a really, really, really delicate nail art brush, but you can use
03:03a toothpick to do this. And you're going to want to make these short little strokes to connect the
03:08center dot to the little dot. So now it's time for top coat to seal your look. It's so important.
03:20But don't forget to use base coat either. I feel like base coat helps the wear just as much as top
03:25coat. I had a lot of fun creating this look with OPI for Rachel Antonoff, and I hope you have a lot
03:33of fun creating it at home. So feel free to explore. We were thinking about doing it in purple. Thanks so
03:38much, Ms. Pop, for stopping by and showing us how to get this look. If you try to recreate it,
03:42don't forget to tag Essence Mag and Ms. Pop Nails on Instagram. We'd love to see how you recreate.
03:48Thanks so much for having me. Of course. Thank you. Bye.
