00:00Hot 97's annual hip-hop concert, Summer Jam, turned chaotic outside MetLife Stadium this weekend.
00:08New Jersey State Police claimed a crowd tried to force its way into the show without tickets.
00:13There were reports of non-ticket holders climbing fences and even bottles being thrown at officers.
00:18Because of the actions of non-ticket holders, concertgoers with tickets couldn't get in.
00:23Alright, so of course nobody really likes that. They're spending all of their money.
00:26But it took several days for all of the facts to come out.
00:29We now know that 60 people were arrested and 10 officers were injured in the melee that ensued.
00:35Is this a black eye for hip-hop and Hot 97's flagship concert?
00:38Or is this another example of over-militarization of the police leading to escalation?
00:42What do you think?
00:43Oh, wow. You know, I thought, first of all, as, you know, lover of hip-hop, I was like, damn, this had to happen.
00:49Because people already have this kind of idea that hip-hop is, you know, always associated with chaos and violence.
00:55There were some stigmas already surrounding it, yeah.
00:57I thought, you know, I wasn't there and I can't speak for, you know, what the police officers were thinking.
01:03But I thought it was very heavy-handed.
01:06There was tear gas. There was, like, riot gear.
01:08I thought, wow, okay.
01:09I didn't see what the people were doing on the, you know, on the ground.
01:13Right.
01:13But it just looked like a lot.
01:15It was just, I felt like I was looking at Ferguson all over again.
01:17Exactly.
01:18That's what I thought.
01:18As soon as I saw some of this footage and these images, I was like, this is a summer concert?
01:22You know, I thought it was Ferguson, I thought it was Baltimore.
01:24Yeah.
01:25Some parts of it looked like there was tear gas.
01:27I mean, it was just a lot that was happening.
01:30But there were over 60 arrests.
01:31I think it's going to be pretty interesting to see how this pans out for next year.
01:34Yeah.
