00:00the Emmy nominations came out this year and it's a record for the Emmys 18
00:06nominations for african-americans whether it's from drama comedy across
00:10the entire gamut and you started in soap operas and you've done comedy and you've really been
00:19able to watch this industry evolve and you've been a part a crucial part to its evolution how
00:24do you feel about the Emmys finally recognizing everything that african-americans male and
00:29female are doing in television well I think it's about time yeah I think you know everything
00:34comes full circle and unfortunately as as an african-american artist you know we don't
00:39always get the same opportunities but I'm not a complainer you know you just gotta you gotta
00:45work with what with what you got and you know to be able to have the opportunity is more
00:50comforting for me to not have any opportunity right now is frustrating but being recognized by
00:56that means you know that's great because you want to be recognized for your good work you want so
01:00you want somebody to say wow we're paying attention we really like because to me it's not about stardom
01:06it's about doing good work creating a legacy of of good work great work that people will watch for
01:12years to come speaking of great work will we ever see a one-woman show from you I'm working on are you
01:17really I you know it's so weird he's like I know how to start things but I'm not a good finisher so
01:26I I finally have a great team put together you know my sister is my manager I have a great you
01:32know agent and you know I have great you know a great lawyer I have so I'm the the last part of
01:37my life that's just kind of missing is somebody that I can write with and cold write with so I'm
01:42actually gonna hook up with this gentleman and we're gonna see how it goes with a one-woman show
01:45awesome and now that you just said that everybody's gonna be sliding into the dm emailing you so I
01:50can run it down the street send me the material girl I have a script for you I know a segment so
01:54you just so many talented people out there you know so many gifted writers because I'm not a writer
01:59what I I love dialogue like I can write scenes because being an actress for so long you know I
02:06know how it feels and how those words should flow yeah but as far as you know doing the whole arc and
02:13stuff I'm just not good so I stay in my lane but I love good content so you know I tell everybody
02:17you know I'm not a stand-up comedian I just I'm a comedic actress that brings that black and white to
02:23life and that's the script I love the way you said but I will definitely be the first person to
