00:00Next up, lots happening in award show news. MTV announced the VMAs. Some surprises, some not so
00:09much a surprise. Beyoncé got five nominations. Kendrick Lamar, an Essence Festival alum, five
00:14nominations as well. But it's Nicki Minaj with only three noms that has a few people talking,
00:20especially Minaj. She felt that she should have deserved a little bit more recognition.
00:24Her video Anaconda broke records, so on, so forth. She took to her Instagram and she let
00:29her feelings be known. Nothing to do with any of the women, but everything to do with
00:34the system that doesn't credit black women for their contributions to pop culture as
00:38freely, quickly as they reward others. This isn't anger. This is hashtag information.
00:44Well, you know, what other way to get people buzzing about your feelings than putting it
00:48on social media? Now, some people took that as shade, and by some, I mean Taylor Taytay
00:53Swift. She reacted. There was a back and forth feud. Some of the fans got involved, but all
00:59is well in the land of celebrity feuds. She apologized a little bit later this morning.
01:03Taylor Swift tweeted, I thought I was being called out. I missed the point. I misunderstood,
01:08then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki. Nothing like a bunch of grown women that can squash something
01:12as quickly as it started. I commend you. Next up, the VMAs were the only awards to make announcements
01:18and, uh, I don't know, set a few hearts on fire because I am super excited. 18 nominations
01:24for African-Americans across all acting categories. This is a record. Our girl Taraji P. Henson
01:30was nominated for Empire. Viola Davis and Cicely Tyson nominated for How to Get Away with Murder.
01:35And personally, I can't forget that scene. You know, the one where she's like parting her hair
01:38and greasing her scalp, and you're talking about burning down the house. Best scene of the season.
01:44My girl Queen Latifah and Monique nominated for Bessie. Uzo Aduba nominated for Orange is the New Black.
