00:12created the show Kenya Barris we sat down and had a conversation about our families and what
00:19you see on this screen every day are our families his wife is rainbow she's biracial she's a doctor
00:26these are our children but before then we just sat back and looked at the landscape of
00:31television and we felt this is what was missing for our generation we agree and for us and so
00:39that's why we had come up with the concept of the show and Kenya you know came to me six weeks later
00:45after we had sat down and had this meeting and said I got it and you pitched me the idea and a year
00:53almost to the day we were on the air and how does it feel the success of the show feels great it feels
00:59great that the audience is responding to these stories that we're telling about this family you
01:07know you know it's it's a family it's not about a black family it's just about a family who happens
01:13to be black black and telling stories from a black perspective and you know but but they're everybody's
01:18stories right stories you know it's the American dream about you know becoming successful and giving
01:25your children more than what you had growing up and yet holding on to their culture as they assimilating
01:31this homogenized world that we live in and just dealing with you know sexism racism you know and every
01:38other ism that there is out there I mean it's it's it's real do people come up to you and pitch you
01:42ideas oh they do you know they come hey man when you you know what you need to do you need to do
01:47uh you need to my daughter came home okay okay bro we got it we got it yeah now who do you feel is the
01:55funniest person um in your cast Tracy Ellis Ross hands down yeah she's one of my personal favorites
02:01but why do you feel so uh you know she's she's just a great actress uh and with with a great personality
02:07and a huge talent and and just you know one of our comedic our female comedic uh greats out there on
02:14television right now
