00:00I guess the first time I felt my blackness in show business was when I had
00:06a casting director ask me to be blacker and I truly was like I don't know what
00:12that means so if someone goes can you be sassier I'm like I could be my kind of
00:21sassier but I'm not gonna put a voice on the voice I have is my voice it feels
00:28as if I'm trying to pretend to be something I'm not so I don't do that
00:31there's been several occasions where makeup artists don't have complete kits
00:35where there's only one shade of brown and they don't have the tools to do my hair
00:41so I combat that by I learned how to do my own makeup I show up to work or sets
00:48where if I don't know the makeup artists on the call sheet I come done a lot of
00:53times I'll do a base and let them fill in the rest and I shouldn't have to but I
00:58if I want to look nice that's what I do it's harder to be a person of color in
01:03any industry not just acting it's hard to be a person of color like in a law firm
01:07like it's just it's harder for us and you just have to try like a little harder
01:13there's implicit biases everywhere I just know that I work a little harder than
01:17other people
