00:00Hair is an accessory. It doesn't define who we are.
00:07A piece of advice I would offer women with my hair texture.
00:10Embrace it. Magically, you're not going to wake up a biracial person.
00:14Or a white woman with blonde hair.
00:17But you can sew it, grow it, clip it.
00:21And to give yourself a break and to be okay with finding diversity
00:27with all of the options, whether that's a weave or clips or a wig or natural.
00:32They're all good. Not one isn't better than the other.
00:35And to be okay with that.
00:38Some of the challenges I face with my hair texture is because it's extremely curly.
00:42Anything that's water-based, sometimes certain hair sprays, sometimes certain gels, creams,
00:48will instantly make it start to curl up.
00:50So if I've just straightened it or I pressed it and you add that to it,
00:54instantly I get a wave that sometimes I don't always want.
00:57A hairstyle often doesn't really get good until it's been in for a couple days or a week.
01:01So when it starts to get like that and there is a little bit of buildup,
01:04use baby powder instead so that you don't have to wash it.
01:07You still maintain the hairstyle, but it's not oily or greasy or anything like that.
01:12I'm kind of not that good about washing my hair.
01:15So I drive my hair stylist crazy, but I wear falls.
01:20So this is the fall. Underneath now we just break, put plait, pin it, and then we just snap it on.
01:28Especially since my hair is relaxed, I try not to touch it and have to put as much heat on it.
01:31So if I keep it under a fall when I'm working, then it's a lot easier on the hair.
01:37My challenges for my hair is dryness. Like my hair, it's like I could put oil in my hair,
01:43it's going to soak it up. So I feel like because it gets dry, it always has a tendency for breakage.
01:48I feel like it's stronger when I don't have a relaxer, but it's so challenging.
01:56One piece of advice to give women that have my same hair texture, which is curly-coily,
02:01if you have a perm, take it out. You don't need it.
02:04You just have to know how to work with your hair.
02:07It's tedious, but you blow dry it in sections, so don't get overwhelmed if you have thick hair.
02:12Just don't. But it'll grow faster if you have no chemicals.
02:17I guess the most challenging thing is when you are natural and you do weaves,
02:23when your edges are out, they are a bit straighter than the middle section of your hair
02:27because you're always trying to get it to match or get it straight.
02:30So what I started doing was buying hair that matches my hair.
02:35So on the days when I don't have photo shoots or I don't have to work,
02:39I don't have to be conscious of straightening my edges.
02:42Right now I'm having a hair crush on Lala.
02:45I love her hair. I think it's beautiful.
02:47I think it's very sexy because it shows up all of her features and her beautiful eyes and her neckline.
02:52And I love how blonde it is.
02:54I've kind of stayed in the same vein for a long time.
02:58I mean, I'll switch it up with ponytails and buns and stuff like that,
03:01but I've never actually went short and so light.
03:04And Cesar convinced me that it was long overdue time for a change.
03:09So I trusted him and I did it and the response has been amazing.
03:13I just do what I'm told when it comes to hair because color, cutting, perming, you know,
03:19it just damages your hair.
03:21But one thing with this color now, I know that's important, is conditioning really well.
03:25When you dye your hair this light, you want to make sure you extra condition it
03:29so that it doesn't get dry and brittle and break off or anything crazy like that.
