00:00Countdown to the 20th anniversary of the Essence Festival, July 4th weekend in New Orleans.
00:06Number 11.
00:07We did a singing contest.
00:09A young lady came up from the audience, sang the lights out.
00:14Sang the lights out.
00:15She looked 18.
00:16She was actually 39.
00:18And Steve made the comment, something about, did she want to get her hair done or something like that.
00:25And all of a sudden, speaking on the whole sense of community issue,
00:29a woman in the audience raised her hand.
00:31She was a hairstylist.
00:33Another woman raised her hand.
00:35She was actually a fashion stylist.
00:37She wanted to dress a young woman.
00:39Another woman was a makeup artist because this woman had so much talent.
00:43They were just giving of themselves to help this young woman out.
00:49And it gets better.
00:50She wasn't doing very well financially.
00:52Do you know the people in the audience actually got up, formed a line as if we were in church or something,
00:58and gave her money?
01:01I mean, gave her literally dollars, checks, whatever.
01:05She left the room with a bag of money so big.
01:08It was unbelievable.
01:09And I'm just saying, speaking to that whole sense of community, where else does this happen?
01:14I mean, maybe in church, yes.
01:16But where else at a music fest?
01:19And, I mean, where else can something like that happen?
01:21I mean, the young woman was beside her, just crying and crying.
01:25Everyone was in tears at that point, really.
01:27But just, that's the kind of thing that you find at the Essence Fest.
01:31Buy your tickets.
01:32Then come back tomorrow as we continue to count down to the 2014 Essence Festival Live
01:37on the New Orleans July 4th weekend.
