Kerry Washington talks valuing the lives of Black Women and how to model that to the world, on Essence Festival Wellness House.
Transcript
00:00I think about movements like Say Her Name, you know, the amazing work that Kimberly Crenshaw is doing, that we have to really struggle to get people to acknowledge the deaths of Black women who have been victims of police violence.
00:13And what that says to me is that we're not valuing the lives of Black women in our culture.
00:20The fact that Breonna Taylor's murderers are still out there means that we are not valuing the lives of Black women as a society, as a culture.
00:30So we have to at least be valuing ourselves.
00:33We have to at least be affirming our own value and our beauty and care so that we can sort of model that to the rest of society.
