Rachel Elizabeth Cargle on diversity inclusion and Black Women not being the Chief Diversity Officer at the workplace.
Transcript
00:00Thinking about the ways that, and I teach this often when I lecture, is that the Black person in your office is not your diversity and inclusion officer.
00:07So stop asking the Black woman who's simply trying to do their job to also train you in how to not be racist.
00:13That there's people who, like me and a lot of other anti-racism facilitators, who come in and this is our job and this is our life's work to teach and facilitate in this way.
00:22The Black teacher on your board is not the person who's doing your diversity work.
00:27The Black woman who works in the office down the hall from you doesn't have to answer all your questions about how to not be racist.
00:33You are not responsible as a Black person to make your space less racist.
00:37They need to be putting in the money to hire people to come in to do the work.
