00:00Why do you feel now is the right time for Hamilton to be coming out on Disney Plus?
00:05We always thought we understood the significance of this wonderful phenomenon that we were lucky
00:13enough to fall into. But what we learned throughout time is that the world keeps changing and there's
00:19new relevance to this piece of art. You know, like any great song you listen to, you know,
00:25every time you tune into it, something new is going to hit you. That's your experience of
00:29art is really more about where you are and what you need than the piece of material.
00:34And that's what's really special. When they first decided to have it come out on this big
00:40Independence Day weekend, we thought it was like, hey, you guys, here's some theater on
00:44television. You know, theater is dark, but we need to remember our humanity and come together.
00:49We thought it was about that. And then somebody videotaped George Floyd being murdered. And
00:56it suddenly was not as important to be hiding in our houses. We needed to go out into the street
01:02and demand justice and try to start fixing some of the issues in this country that were bigger than
01:11a quarantine. And then all of a sudden, Hamilton becomes relevant in a way that it gives ownership
01:18to all of the people in this country. It gives, um, it gives some entitlement to some different
01:25voices at the table to answer some of these questions, because you remember when you see
01:28us playing these forefathers and foremothers of our country that, um, that our ancestors also built
01:35this country. And, um, and we have some really important ideas about what needs to happen so that
01:40the great work they started, um, is continued.
