00:00The proposed political ceasefire between Bersatu and PAS will remain fragile unless both parties resolve their fundamental differences and address the recent political debacle in Perlis, say political analysts.
00:13Rabia Aminuddin of International Islamic University of Malaysia said the two leading Prakatan national components must iron out the differences in their political orientation and long-term objectives.
00:25She said PAS appears to prioritize a long-term ideological vision, viewing politics as a vehicle to shape society according to Islamic principles, while Bersatu seems to be more focused on immediate electoral survival.
00:39She said that while reconciliation could lead to a stronger alliance in the next election, she anticipates the relationship will remain transactional and fragile for the time being.
00:49On February 1, PAS Assistant Secretary General Shahir Sulaiman called for a ceasefire between the two parties pending an immediate meeting of the Perkatan National Supreme Council.
01:00Meanwhile, Azmi Hassan of Academy Nusantara said the PAS remains the most critical pain point in the opposition coalition and warned that failure to address it could prolong political instability.
01:11He also called on the two parties to resolve the PN Championship issue amicably, given skepticism in Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin's camp over whether PAS can effectively lead the coalition.
