00:06certainly one for the books and a lot of folks were left digging out after this big winter storm.
00:12It was a storm to remember for folks up and down the east coast from the Carolinas up to Virginia.
00:19Here in Virginia Beach, crews were staging, awaiting the brunt of the storm with dozens
00:23of salt trucks and plows at the ready on area highways. Meanwhile, across the border in North
00:27Carolina, the storm began to unleash its full fury. Wind-driven, horizontal snow blew across
00:33nearly deserted beaches here at Kitty Hawk. The few who did brave the storm fought strong winds
00:38and bitter cold, and even the dogs were not impressed. As the heavy snow settled in, roads
00:44became snow-packed, visibility became little, and the accumulations became much. The drive between
00:50Kitty Hawk north to the Virginia state line was a buffet of snow. Heavy snow blanketed towns from
00:54here in Granby up through Coinjock before lightening up heading into Virginia, but that quiet would not
00:59last long. Shortly after dark here in Virginia Beach, heavy snow began ripping through the palm
01:07trees thanks to winds gusting over 50 miles per hour. Snow blew down Atlantic Avenue as a few motorists
01:12made their way around. Accumulations were much lower here compared to the neighboring states down south,
01:17but two to three inches were reported in the area. Most of the snow came to an end overnight, but strong
01:22winds lingered into Sunday, keeping the surf roaring away as the storm lifted out. Area
01:27flowers suffered under the snow, even as the birds didn't seem too daunted.
01:34High temperatures this week will climb above freezing, getting rid of most of the visual
01:38evidence of the snow that was left behind this weekend, but the memories of this storm
01:43will not soon be forgotten for folks in the region. Reporting from Virginia Beach for AccuWeather,
