00:00A total of 76.8 tons of mandarin oranges intended for Chinese New Year supplies were destroyed in a warehouse fire along Jalan Kabun Sultan in Kota Baru on Sunday night.
00:14Warehouse manager Hong Leng Feng said he was alerted of the blaze after nearby residents notified him.
00:20He added that the oranges were intended to supply the entire state, with most Kota Baru supermarkets sourcing their stock from the warehouse.
00:28The fire also destroyed all onions stored in the warehouse, two lorries and two motorcycles.
00:35The warehouse, Hong said, had been in operation for about 40 years.
00:40Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Mohamed Fadlizil Ikram Ahmad Pauzi said firefighters received the emergency call at 9.09 p.m.
00:53A skylift was needed to access the warehouse after storage racks collapsed.
00:58The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses are still under investigation.
