A fire destroyed at least 18 semi-wooden shop houses in Pekan Semerah, Batu Pahat, on Aug 20.   The Johor Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 7.02pm, with 63 firefighters from four stations in the district deployed to the scene. 00:00A fire destroyed at least 18 semi-wooden shophouses in Perkansimera, Batu Pahat, on Wednesday.

00:08The Johor Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 7.02 p.m.,

00:13with 63 firefighters from four stations in the district deployed to the scene.

00:19They said within 10 minutes, flames had engulfed most of the two-story wooden shop lots,

00:23many of which were still open for business and due to close at 8 p.m.

00:28They said the blaze was brought under control at 8.41 p.m. and fully extinguished at 2.06 a.m.

00:35No casualties were reported, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses are under investigation.
